Any Wendy's Employees Here?

I went through the drive-through at Wendy's shortly before 9:00 p.m. the other night and ordered 2 Mandarin chicken salads. The guy keyed them in and the price came up on the screen, then he said, "oh, I'm sorry, we're out of Mandarin chicken salads for the night." I told him to forget it and I went right next door and got the new Asian chicken salads from McDonalds.

I had been wanting to try one and it was good, but I didn't like the dressing as much as the Wendy's dressing.

But anyway, my question is do you make a certain number of Mandarin chicken salads for the day and when they're gone, they're gone? Or do you make them up several times during the day, and they were just too lazy to make them up for me?

I used to work at a McDonalds back when I was in college. IIRC (and it's been about 12+ years) we made up salads for the day once in the morning, and may be again closer to dinnertime depending on how off the projections were. The estimated # of each salad made were based on sales trends.

We always made up extras of the garden salads; they could easily be made into chef salads by adding the strips of ham and turkey. I don't know what goes into a Wendy's mandarin salad, so I don't know if something like that could have been done.

In a way I should be surprised they didn't offer to make you one, but I'm not. I love Wendy's, but their drive thrus here have been slipping badly. There was a time recently when something was wrong with every order -- no cheese or no mustard on Lauri's cheeseburger, lettuce on mine when I didn't want it, and where's the nugget sauce that I told them I wanted after they asked me about it? -- that I will pull up and check everything in the bag before leaving. I love the food but the service is slipping.

That's a normal occurence around here. Depending on how late it is, we've often not been able to get salads or baked potatoes.

I've had that happen with baked potatoes before at Wendy's but never with salad. I used to work at Burger King in HS and I remember a couple of times our trucks didn't arrive on time and the manager had to run to the grocery store to get french fries....funny thing is some of the customers commented on the new fries and how great they were! If I were to take a guess, I would say they only make so many a day based on sales and that they used up their supply for the day and since it was later on they weren't prepared to make any more for the day.
