Hi there. No, I have never been to California, but we are going to DL/DCA next December as well as a return trip to WDW. I felt that the park hopper option was totally unnecessary (particularly for a first timer)...it takes a fair amount of time to get from one park to the other. We were there from December 9 through 19 and never waited in line for a single thing, except for Astro Orbiter in MK, and even that was only 20 minutes of waiting. The advice to offer (even if you've heard it before) couldn't be more emphasized by me more clearly -- YOU HAVE TO GET TO EACH PARK WHEN THEY OPEN! The second piece of advice -- YOU HAVE TO USE FASTPASSES! Yes, fastpasses mean that you may have to walk back and forth between sections of the park, but being able to avoid any line wait time for 10 days of parks was the result, and we didn't mind walking a bit more (burned off some of that creme brulee - lol). If you get to the parks when they open, you'll be astonished what you can do within the first hour or two, and also how many fastpasses you can obtain...remember, get another fasptass as soon as you can - each ticket tells you when you can. The rides you've heard of really are the must-dos...almost every attraction at WDW offers something unique, and it's hard for me to think of anything that's not a must-do. Especially since you have a week of being there, you'll surely be able to do everything at least once -- we did almost everything 4 to 5 times. We didn't do any water park additions because we didn't have time AND we were staying at three different WDW hotels that had great pools (AKL, Coronado, and Pop), so I can't tell you much about that -- I do know when we were there only Blizzard Beach was open for the season. If you want to know anything else, please feel free to ask -- we did A LOT there and ate at almost every signature restaurant as well as saw every hotel, ride every ride, AND (are you ready for this??) - we always got at least 8 hours of sleep....I know, right?...I'm telling you, get there when they open and be diligent with the fastpasses, and you'll be good...it's worth the extra walking!
