Any way to get discounts on appliance purchase?

Our refrigerator is on the fritz, so we will be buying a new one soon (like probably this weekend). We looked around a few months ago thinking we were going to have to purchase then, but ended up getting a few more months out of them.

We are looking into getting a side-by-side refrigerator and new stove for sure. We will probably just keep our current microwave and dishwasher unless we get some sort of bundle deal.

When we shopped earlier, it seemed like most of the large retailers (JCPenney, Best Buy, Sears, etc) had basically the same prices, but maybe I'm missing something.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice or tips on getting the best deal we can?

If you're going to use a credit card see if it has price protection (a lot of Mastercards do, not so much for Visa). I have a Citibank card where you can register your purchase and they monitor prices and if it drops you get the difference back, got $192 back on a TV last year.

That's a good idea. My Chase Sapphire Reserve does have price protection. I'll definitely put it on that card.

Try Costco - they seem to have good prices

Our dishwasher broke and we needed to buy a replacement however it was between traditional sales periods.

So we bought gift cards from a resaler site and saved 20%. We went with Lowes. You have to use them in store though.

You can try gift card granny. It is a search engine that searches resale sites.

Did you try Home Depot? I've always found their prices to be the lowest. If you get an HE appliance, there is usually some money you get there by sending in the info to your local utility company. With Memorial weekend approaching there should be some good sales.

Memorial Day sales should be starting. Check for manufacturer rebate offerings too. My State Board of Public Utilities sometimes offers rebates on products that meet certain energy efficiency guidelines. Some utility companies may too.

Home Depot and Lowes tend to be $10 cheaper but they never have the appliance we want in stock, and need 10 days to two weeks or order them.
Sears always has them in stock for same day delivery, which is funny given all the articles about supplies not wanting to sell to Sears.
When your fridge dies, you're not in a position to wait 2 weeks for a new one!

We've had luck with floor models. As others have mentioned prices for new in box are generally the same. We tend to go with Best Buy for the rewards points and because we can usually get our stuff in a day or two rather than having to wait a couple of weeks.

Thank you for all the ideas. We'll probably hit all the big chains again this weekend and delivery time will be key. Right now we are using our downstairs freezer and the mini fridge DD brought home from college last week!

Does anyone that's a costco member have time to check the price on this refrigerator? It's the one we've been looking at:

We are a little over an hour from the closest costco, but we are in the area sometimes. I've heard great things about the store, so if we could get a good deal there, I'd love to buy a membership!

It is $1549.99. :)

You can purchase Lowes 10% off coupons on ebay, sometimes they're the physical coupon, sometimes just the unique code will be emailed to you. We've done this a couple times for bigger purchases, never had a problem with using them.

Ah, thank you! It is a little cheaper than the other places. The cheapest I'd found was $1,600. Now to decide if it's worth the extra for the door-in-a-door :)

It's not! We have a 4 door- door in door. Completely not necessary. We love the 4 door part though.

Have you checked going through ebates? Many big box stores are on there and the prices are the same. It is nice to get that quarterly rebate check.

Lowes for us. Sears went out of business in the area. There is no Home Depot within 20+ miles either.
Menards is a place to look if you have one close-they have a sale +11% rebate(check for a future purchase).

We try to find the Lowe's coupon on Ebay. They seem to be cracking down on those though as we tried last Sunday and didn't find many. We then buy the Lowe's gift card at Kroger for fuel points. Even better if grocery is a good cash back offer on the credit card.

KY is a state with nice rebates for energy upgrades. I bought a new chest freezer at Menards for $188, got the 11% back off next purchase making it $169. The electric company came out, took the old freezer away, and sent us a $50 gift card about 2 weeks later. Net cost was $119. We found out today that our A/C unit needs replaced. The cost is 3100 for a new carrier unit installed, but to get our business the repair shop said they would credit the cost of the 2 visits to attempt to repair the old system. We also get $300 from the state for that upgrade, so our true out of pocket will be around $2,000 for a brand new, warrantied, more energy efficient system.

Check prices, look for coupons, try discounted gift cards, use rewards credit cards, and check your electric utility for rebates.

Or consider a weekend job for the employee discounts. Worthwhile if you have some extra time and a whole kitchen to redo......

Also check Lowes "dent and scratch" inventory. They cut the prices sharply on those items.
