I live in another suburban county that borders Washington so I can't tell you much about South Strabane - just wanted say Welcome to Pittsburgh.
It really is a nice place to live. The city itself small, but beautiful and there is so much to do and see. Friendly people, good schools and wonderful medical facilities. There is an excellent zoo, science center, museum and children's museum.
Washington County also borders Allegheny County (Pittsburgh) and from what I do know, you should only be about 30 minutes from the city. The Peters Township area in Washington County has seen a lot of growth and new construction over the past 10 years. You would be closest to what is know as the "South Hills" of suburban Pittsburgh. Lots of shopping, etc.
In addition to Pittsburgh's great sports teams, Washington County is also home of the minor league Washington Wildthings baseball team. It's a nice ball park and very family friendly. The Meadows race track and casino is also in Washington County and there is a new outlet mall there as well.
One thing you will definately notice is that we've got a lot more hills than NJ LOL.
Wish I could tell you more. Welcome to Pittsburgh - I hope you like it here.
