Hi! Blondie lives in Fredericksburg and she said once that it took her 12 hours. Where in Locust Grove? That probably adds another half hour to get up to 95.
We returned from our first trip to WDW in May (we flew) and we are planning another trip for next year, but DD would like to try a road trip. I've heard that the distance is about the same (12 hrs.) from here in Roanoke. Any advice on good places to stop/stay on the way down??
I went from Richmond one time and it took about 12 hours, and that was with only one food break, one extra bathroom break, and the stop at the Florida Welcome Center for my free orange juice. Add at least 45 minutes to get up to Fredericksburg. (I will say that the speed limits have changed since then. I think you can now go 70 on a good portion of I-95 in North Carolina. We won't discuss how fast I drove on the 55 mph section of I-95 through Richmond and Petersburg, though!)
We drove to WDW from Richmond for our trip last week. We left DTD around noon and arrived home 12 1/2 hours later.
Once you get out of Virginia, the speed limits go up to 70. Georgia is widening I-95 south of Savannah so you'll see quite a few orange and white barrels. There's also quite a bit of road work in downtown Jacksonville. We used the bypass around Jacksonville on the way home and traffic was fairly light and no road work at all.
