Hi Y'all!!!
My husband and I just bought a 63 Globetrotter and really want to take a trip to Disneyworld. Cannot wait to stay at the FW campground. Any other airstreamer's here?

Not I,,we have a Jayco.

But I just wanted to welcome you to the camping boards and congratulate ya'll on your camper purchase.:thumbsup2

No, but its a dream of mine for "someday."

Welcome to the boards!

Are you guys new to campers in general, or just new to vintage campers? I LOVE the old Airstreams, hope you can show us some pictures, we'd LOVE to see them.

T:thumbsup2 he old Airstreams are WONDERFUL! We used to own a 1974 Argosy by Airstream. We camped in it for years and ended up selling it on Ebay about 6 years ago. A woman from Florida bought it and paid a transporter to come up to Michigan and bring it down to her. It was a LOVELY 24' trailer that pulled like a dream! If I knew how, I'd load pics! :confused3

Just wondering why everybody is so in love with Airstreams? Curious, not condesending. Grew up with a pop up and always heard people talk so positive about their Airstreams and just want to know why the love affair.

I like them because they are so...I dont know....MANLY, I guess!!! I know that sounds retarded, but theres no cute ANYTHING to them...just bare metal!!! Kinda like how a kitchen looks when its designed by a guy....stainless steel everything. Its either THAT or because it looks like a bullet, I aint sure which!! :lmao:

Welcome to the Dis and congrats on your new silver bullet. :thumbsup2

I am new to camping but my hubby has been camping his whole life. His family always tent camped or camped in a pop-up.

Hey again,
We have wanted an Airstream for a long time. I looked for two years before we found one. The small ones are hard to find from what I have heard. We are in the process of painting and putting down new floors so it will be ready to use in a few weeks. Here's a pic.

Your colon(yes...I said colon!!!) was missing after the "http", and ya had 2 http's in the address....I corrected that...but then you deleted or moved the picture in your photobucket file. You'll catch on. Its simple after you get it right once. Dont give up yet!

I'll take a whack:

They're very cool. They're very well built (how many other trailers are in use after 40 years?). They're very nostalgic, too.

They aren't the most practical trailers when it comes to space (very few have slideouts), and they are very expensive if you buy a new one.

When I first started looking at RVs, Airstreams were my first choice. The lack of permanent, separate sleeping areas for the kids were a turnoff.

I also decided I wanted a motorhome that could pull my Road Runner.

Hey...Shan got it!!! Looks great Peanut!!!

Its great to see I won't have the only vintage Airstream at the Fort :cool1:

This is actually our second Airstream. We sold a 1971 24' Safari last year when we added our 3rd child. Last month we bought a 1969 31' Soverign. It is going to be a fun project. To make sure we complete it in a reasonable time frame I made reservations for October and told the kids. This way they won't let us not be ready.

We have done plenty of camping all around Fl including the Fort in our old trailer. The only thing is that we have never been all shiney and perfect. It sometimes feels like poor cousins at the reunion when we camp in a park full of giant $100,000+ MHs. Of course we only paid $2500 so I guess it shows ;)

We began camping in a tent 11 years ago and I told husband I hated sleeping in the ground, not having a convienent potty, and keeping the kitchen in a box. He told me he was not pretty camper material and would prefer a backpack and a sleeping roll. The Airstream is a perfect compromise. It is not as plush as living at home, but it isn't as dirty as sleeping on pine bushes. We thought about pop ups but I wanted a bathroom (not a shower, just a decent toilet.)
When we checked out regular trailers it seemed that unless we spent real money it would be run down and not worth the effort. The Airstream actually appreciated- can't say that about many RVs.

Anyways, looking to get back to the FW after being away for 3 years.
