Looks like we'll be flying US Airways on our next trip as I simply cannot beat the cost, - direct flights are a fortune!! There is a stopover in Charlotte but overall it doesn't look too bad.

Anyone had any experience with them? What are they like overall (entertainment etc.)?

Any comments appreciated.

Thanks

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

We've flown twice with them - and are flying with them again on our next trip. We have found them to be quite good - transatlantic legs much better then the internal flights, though. I suggest you visit their website. It gives you all the details of the type of aircraft used, and the in-flight entertainment provided on them.

We flew transatlantic from Manchester to Philadelphia on both previous trips. Aircraft used were Airbuses. Each passenger had their own seatback TV screen with choice of films which you can pause, rewind etc. The website gives details of the current month's films.

Only point to add is that on our last trip they asked if we were prepared to delay our travel for 24 hours; in exchange we were given free overnight accommmodation at an airport hotel, dinner and guaranteed business class seats for the next day. Also, they gave us $400 each as compensation.

It has spolit us though. We found economy class a bit more uncomfortable on the way back, after having such luxuries as free champagne and multi-adjustable seats which almost reclined to beds on the way there!

We have just purchased through Expedia flights to Orlando via Philadelphia. Again the deal was not to be missed. The flights are on e-tickets - do you have experience with this.

Thanks

Holly, on our previous trips we had proper tickets, but have e-tickets for the next trip in April, so I don't really have any experience of those yet.

How good were the prices and when do you travel? I have seen the prices vary greatly for our flights.

We are paying £450 each flying out at the end of March, but I saw them as high as £800 for the same date.

We purchased for 2 adults and 1 child flying from Manchester in August for £1241.80. Like you we have noticed much higher prices. The same flight on Opodo is £1700.

We used expedia last August and flew with BMI and they were £400 more. That was a good price then and we waited til the last minute to book (3 weeks before departure).

US Airways seat pitch is between 33" and 34" which is the best you can get. Virgin seat pitch is 30".

hi,

We to have just book through expedia, 4 adult flights from gatwick connecting at pittsburgh to orlando for £391 for 24 july - 8 august. To good a price to so no for school hoildays! I notice today on there website they have now increased the prices by between £800 - £1000.

This is the first time we have flown using connecting flights. Can anyone tell me on the return flight, do we have to collect our luggage after the first flight to book in for the connecting flight or will it be transfered automatically? Also we don't have very much time between connecting flights on the return journey. What is likely to happen if we miss the connection?

I have flown USAirways a lot and I think they are one of the better American carriers, their planes are generally newer than the others and their crews a lot more agreeable. With the extra legroom and wider seats I would fly with them in preference to Virgin and BA anytime. But with my "child bearing hips" :D maybe that's a personal thing LOL.
Silky, you have to collect you bags at the port of entry ON THE WAY OUT and clear customs and immegration. On the way back your luggage is ticketed through to the UK , you don't need to do anything yourself ( but it's always a good idea to ask at check in)

Last July my children and I flew United Airlines. We found them to be good and the food was good though we found it difficult to get our mileage plus account credited with points -it took until last week, four months after returning!

I too booked Expedia for U.S Airways via Philly(24 July-2 wks) I was pleased with the car and 3 tickets at £1400 ish from Manchester and also note the tickets went up considerably two days later.

We already negotiated the best price at our Best Western on 192 -$40 per night. All in all it's got miles better from our original trip back in 1999 that cost more than I care to think back to.

'Hope everyone has a good trip despite the visa issue looming.
