Any updates on conditions of I-5?

We're driving down from SF Bay Area on Wednesday and I'm told the mudslides are all cleaned up along the 5, but now I'm told that the fog may be an issue. We dealt with crazy fog on 152 and the 5 last January for the SW 10k and it was a nightmare.

If you're driving down or back today or tomorrow, mind letting me know what the road and weather is like?

We can take the 101, but my husband is really pushing back on that extra hour. I kind of want to go to the "safe" route :)

The 5 is clear from all that mud now. I personally would take the 5 unless there was dangerous fog conditions. Check the traffic maps and weather conditions right before your trip before you make your final decision.

We drove to Solvang on Friday from the Bay Area on the 101 and traffic was HORRIBLE since the Grapevine was closed. A 4 hour trip took us 6.5 hours. We drove back home on Sunday and traffic was clear since the Grapevine re-opened.

Thank you for this update!

So that's just it: I feel so dumb, but I have no idea how to check the weather conditions for SR-152 or I-5. Do I use the CAL-DOT website or is there another source? I'm from TX so I know how to track storms and plan my road trips accordingly, but fog and mudslides are new to me :)

I check traffic conditions from my iPhone map but for weather I would look up a website like this http://www.accuweather.com/en/driving-directions-weather to see if there are any weather alerts in the area I will be driving in. When we were driving to Solvang this weekend the radio had an emergency alert to watch out for flash floods. Listening to the radio will alert you to any issues that may be coming your way as well.

The issues with the I5 usually happen around Frazier Park, so I just search that for weather. I've rarely run into fog over the grapevine, but we get it thick around Bakersfield sometimes. The only day recently that was bad was on Friday after the mudslides. Doesn't it get pretty foggy in the Bay area, too?

I wouldn't worry about fog on I-5 through the valley. The mudslides were a very unexpected and isolated situation so fingers crossed that won't happen again anytime soon.

We drive from the central coast to disneyland regularly on I-5 and it's always fine until we hit the LA area. There is a ton of road work and construction because of the metro so I always take an alternate route. The simplest one is 210 to 605 south. There are others that are even faster and better for bypassing the road work but that's the simplest. I see you're driving down today -- safe travels and have fun!
