Any updates/mailings yet about Disneyana 2002 convention at WDW?

This year's Disneyana convention is at WDW in mid-August, several weeks earlier than in previous years. So I expected to start getting some mailings regarding the merchandise and workshops by now. Has anyone gotten anything yet?

Second question: how much hotter/more humid is Orlando in mid-August compared to early September -- as a Coloradoan, I wilt when the local humidity rises above 25% !

A side note: the official Disneyana Convention website at Disney.go.com is slowly replacing the 2001 information with 2002 updates. And if I understood the 2002 agenda shown at the "Events" link at that site, it looks like there will be a final banquet instead of an auction - hooray, in my opinion! (By way of explanation, the 2002 convention has been shortened by several days and there was a big uproar when Conventioneers learned that one of the events to be scrubbed was the final-night banquet -- I guess lots of folks expressed strong opinions to the WDW Special Events Office..whioh apparently listened to their wishes.)

What is shown on the Official Disneyana Convention Website is information from last year with the exception of the letter ConventionEars received at the close of last year's convention on the home page. Even the heading on that page still reads 2001.

The Events page presented is from last year, check the dates. The latest information that I was emailed from Special Events a few months ago indicates no banquet the last night but a breakfast on the last day. The email also stated, "Schedule subject to change."

In past years we have had 2-3 mailings from Special Events by now.
Maybe they are still trying to get their act together with this new concept. One can only hope. :(

To answer your other question about the weather. My experience with August is that not only is it very hot and humid, it usually rains (downpours with thunder) every afternoon and the parks are extrememly crowded. When we questioned about the date change we were told that some people had complained about not being able to take their children, and others complained that the September dates interfered with their religion.

Kathi,

Thanks for the input and corrections! I didn't go to last year's convention, so I never saw the original letter that the Conventioneers received there. I had been under the impressions from various discussions over the past few months that the final banquet had been scrapped in favor of keeping the auction, but it looks like the original letter had mentioned the "Final Moustery" banquet all along. And I realized later that I was wrong in stating the 2002 convention agenda could be seen by clicking on the "Event Overview" link at the Disney.go.com website; but when I tried to edit my message on this board, I kept getting a "cannot find spell-checker" error message.

I might give WDW Special Events a phone call on Monday, just to see when the next mailing is being sent out. I'll post any details I learn here.

Thanks for letting me know about the daily rainshowers in Orlando, on top of the humiidity. You'll now be able to recognize me at the convention as "The Humidity Warrior", armed with my power belt bearing a fan, mister, and umbrella, and wearing waterproof sandles and a poncho so that I will be prepared for all exigencies! Oh, and don't forget the pin backpack, with the protective lightning rod attached to prevent electrocution of all my precious pin collectibles. (Hmmm, I wonder if I can color-coordinate all this equipment so I'll have at least the look of a bizarro super-woman?)

Glad I could help.

As far as editing your posts...and the error message you are getting.
The same thing was happening to me. Are you using Netscape??? I went to the tech board and they told me that was the reason. They said they were aware of the problem....guess they haven't fixed it yet.

Kathi,

Yes, I am using Netscape as my default browser, so what the tech board suggested could apply to me regarding the uncooperative spell-checker.

I did call the WDW Special Events Office earlier today...and posted my report in a new thread on this board. But, in a nutshell, the January and February mailings that registered Conventioneers got in years past were eliminated this year. We will, however, be getting a mailing towards the end of April. And there will NOT be a final banquet at the 2002 convention-phooey!

Thanks again for checking out the error message on my behalf.
