Has anyone heard if the proposed cell phone law that you would be able to buy your number and switch over to a new carrier will in fact take place on Thanksgiving?

Another lousy day of poor service from Cellular One - I absolutely hate that company!

Is this local or national? I haven't heard of it.

national

Not sure if it was thanksgiving or after new years

It is supposed to be national and the last I heard, it would take effect on Nov. 24th. Naturally some of the cell phone companies were fighting this.

It sounds like a great idea! I hate having to change my number every time I change my phone! A few years back, it was predicted that folks would be assigned a phone number just like a social security number, that would follow them their whole life! I like that idea too!

I believe Nov. 24 is the right date. It is coming up soon for sure. Yesterday there was a news report about how the small cell phone stores are gearing up for a very busy Christmas season. They expect to be selling a lot of new phones and changes of service. These owners are looking to get instructions as to how this will work. It sounds like it's basically the same procedure they use when setting up new service but they may have to be given some slack at first as they learn the system.

My verizon contract expired in June. I'm looking for a new company with a better deal. I suppose I will be going shopping after 11/24 :)

National in 104 major cities on November 24th. But not nationwide until May 2004.
