Any update on the Hawaii property?

I have not checked DISboards in a while but I seem to recall that the plan was to sell the Hawaii property starting early 2011. Does anyone have an update on whether this is the case or not? We are looking to add on some points but if HI is happening soon, we can wait...

Thanks! Katherine

DVC has made no announcements as to when sales will begin or when the resort will actually open.

I went back and looked at some of the BLT info and it looks like BLT was about at the same stage as Hawaii is on about 6/15/08. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1860137&highlight=blt+construction
I believe sales started in mid 9/08, booking 2/8/09 and the open date was 8/4/09.
Assuming that Hawaii time share laws are similar then we could see sales by August 2010 booking by Jan 2011 and occupancy by June 2011.
Of course many people back in 08 said there was no way BLT would be open in late summer or early fall 09.
I will stick my neck out and predict opening by midsummer 2011, especially with the slowdown making subcontractors and material readily available unlike 2008-2009.
Who remembers the original name of BLT

I think it was the Kingdom Tower?

My guide indicated about a month ago she believed Hawaii would go up for sale around July 4th. She did not mention a price, minimum or point chart, but I did not ask either.

Thanks for the link to the website. It looks cool, although the beach space seems VERY small for such a huge resort.

I hope it does go on sale soon. We are ready to buy some more points! I am just a little worried about MFs. It aint cheap in Hawaii from what I hear of Starwood and Marriott owners...

Kerickson, yes that is correct

Actually on major constriction projects, Island time does not seem to be much of a factor. "Island time is one of the things I like best about Hawaii once you get out of the tourest areas.

I am waiting to hear of they are going to have any "ME" style transportation from the airport and ferry, that will make a big difference as to how much I use the Hawaii DVC.

Werner Weiss has a nice series on the Hawaii project with photos and was recently updated.

It is a nine part series (so far). This link takes you to May 2010 posting. At the bottom of that entry are links to the other eight parts. Great reading. Enjoy!

thanks for the update, I was just wondering myself what was going on over there.

Just wasn't satisfied with the available information and updates on how things are going down there, so I am taking DW there at the end of June to see for ourselves. We booked next door at the Marriott so we would be close to the action. Just couldn't trust those updates!

ME would be pretty useless for Aulani. With Aulani being way out on the Waianae coast you will definately need a rental car unless you plan on staying at the resort the entire time. If this resort was in Waikiki then you could probably be fine without a car since there is a lot to do within walking distance; Waikiki Beach, Ala Moana Shopping Center, Honolulu Zoo, restaurants all over the place.

Yeah, I agree. With that location, a rental car is a must if you want to enjoy the island. We'll definitely get a rental car when we stay.

Yes for us it would be resort only time, we do our exploring on the big island.

I am not a DVC member (yet) but I am hoping for some intro pricing/packages for the new Hawaii resort-do any of you know if Disney does this? Sometimes I get Marriott calling/emailling with promos to get us into a new resort to check it out so I was kinda hoping for the same type of thing-any thoughts?
