I was just wondering what tips and tricks people have used ordering at different restaurants? I am going through the menus and remember reading a post where someone mentioned you can order just meatballs at Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta in DCA. I've never done that so don't quote me on it. :goodvibes Two things I have ordered different then what the menu offers are:

FLo's Roast beef dinner with double mash potatoes instead of the vegetables. I know they've changed the menu there but heard they still let you order the double mash potatoes.

anywhere they sell the corn dogs . . . you can get just the corn dog without the potato chips or apples and it is a bit cheaper.

Also you can ask for butter for rolls or bread bowls at different places.

Does anyone else have any knowledge of off the menu things you can do or order?

You can ask for double mashed potatoes instead of the green beans with your fried chicken at Plaza Inn. We do this for our boys when they share a meal there.

Corn dogs a la carte.

Last time I tried it you could get sandwiches at Hungry Bear a la carte too. I haven't tried this though since they returned the regular fries to the menu.

I get my soup in a bread bowl at Pacific Wharf Cafe poured into a cup rather than into the bread bowl directly. That way the bread doesn't get soggy. And, yes, we ask for butter.

At Flo's you could order mac & cheese as a side. I think it's an on-menu side since the recent changes, but I'm not sure.

Last time we were at French Market, my son wanted the fish. He didn't like the side offered with it though, whatever it was, I don't remember, so they let him substitute one of the other sides available. They seem pretty relaxed about side substitutions at French Market.

I once asked at the Plazs inn... governor may i have a bit more? In my best British accent, and you know what? at no extra charge I actually received another piece of chicken and extra mashed potatoes. :)

Hi,

On our recent holiday, I asked for no chips with the hotdogs at the hotdog stand near Mickey's Fun Wheel. I was told it is the same price with or without the chips. So we got them anyway. I had also read in a thread before that it is a bit cheaper without, but no luck for us with that.

Gisele that is awesome! :lmao:

4Mickey's that is interesting that they charged the same price with or without the chips. We've gotten corn dogs at the Corn Dog Castle, Little Red Wagon and Stagedoor Cafe without the chips for less. I wonder if they still do that or if it is a park wide policy change?

Resort-wide. In fact, any combo can be ordered entree-only, at a lower price.

Hot dog places don't do a la carte. Corn dog places always have. :confused3

Another good thing to note, if you want to eat fried chicken, but don't want to eat a full-plated entree, you can order items a la carte. I've just gotten a fried chicken breast and scoop of mashed potatoes on a few occasions and it ends up being a cheaper meal that's not as huge.

I often go with my friend who is vegan and I like to eat vegetarian often, so there are some off menu items we've gotten in the past.

One thing I used to order all the time was the mozzarella sticks at Golden Horseshoe/Stage Door Cafe. It's no longer on the menu, but you can still order it. It takes them 15 minutes to make. However, they changed the type/brand they use and the cheese sticks are not as good as they once were but not bad by any means.

There are a couple gluten free options for pasta and pizza at Redd Rocket's, so if you prefer gluten free rice pasta or dough, you can order that. It's not on the menu. You can also order a pizza with vegan cheese at Redd Rocket's

At Blue Bayou, the chef has made us a pasta dish before as we do not like the vegetarian dish on the menu. I have also ordered an adult portion of mac & cheese...which is really good.

Yes, we ordered Cheese Sticks at Stagecoach Cafe, and they were not on the menu! ;) Also, we ordered pasta with butter, cream, and salt at Wine Country Trattoria. My boys liked it so much they got seconds!

You can order just the sides - no chicken- at Plaza, significantly cheaper than the entire meal.
I've asked for the children's version of chicken to use in the regular tacos/burrito meals at Rancho . The adult version has a lot of tomato in the sauce -- heartburn city!

You can trade those yucky green things with the chicken dinner at the Plaza Inn for more mashed potatoes.

I wish there were a way to order a double-double & fries, animal style at a burger place, and 60 minutes later, you come back and are handed an In-n-Out bag.

In another thread, I read you could order grilled cheese from Carnation Cafe that isn't on menu. Though, you might want to search for it to make sure I read right :). And the In & Out Burger comment -- that's great!

Does anyone know if it's possible to order a simple cheese or cheese and chicken quesadilla at Rancho Del Zocalo?
My son doesn't like anything they have there.

That's good to know about the grilled cheese at Carnation. I would like to try it sometime but have two boys that wouldn't like the menu but love grilled cheese.

So, for those of you that have gotten a la carte items do you remember what the prices were?

I would love to know if this is actually true, and if so, what kind of bread and cheese they have (does anyone understand this, or am I the only one with this kind of kid?) I remember a time when my son was really into grilled cheese. It was pretty much all he wanted to eat, I think at around 3 years old. The only place we could find it was White Water Snacks. He's older now, and actually not a "picky" eater...but he does still have some preferences when it comes to grilled cheese.
