I'm looking to do a cruise in January, I just missed a promotion for a 100.00 dollar state room credit.. :-(

Its a long 10 day cruise on NCL, what is your advice on how to get a better deal? Should I book now, or wait for prices to drop/ another stateroom credit promotion to pop up?
What do you think?

I don't know about NCL, but when I worked for Royal Caribbean, people could call in if they noticed a price drop or promotion. Booking early got cruisers the best selection, and if they kept their eye out, a good price. There are certain promotions that are for new bookings only, but those (at least at RCCL) were usually within 2 months of sailing, when cruises were in the penalty period for deposits.

January is a bargain time to cruise, so there are often last minute sales. No guarantees though, and of course by that point, the best cabins are usually gone.

If the trends are what I saw about 5 years ago, rates would start low and go up until about two months prior to sailing. Then, only if the ship wasn't selling, they'd dip super low and start rising again.

I book cruises, and Royal Carr. just discontinued giving any adjustments after you make your final payment. If you are going in January, you would already be in that penalty period, so you will want to be sure it's what you want to do. January is typically a great time to cruise. I would give it a bit more time. Who knows, maybe there will be a black friday deal :).

Let me know if I can be of more help,
Leslie

Would this be considered a "leaked ad"?:rotfl:

I think I would wait a few more weeks. January is not prime time to go on a cruise so it shouldn't sell out. Maybe wait until December and see if there are anymore discounts. Have you looked on cruise.com? They usually advertise any sale a cruiseline is offering. And, no, I don't work for cruise.com. We are also looking for a cruise and I was on their site yesterday. Good luck! Honestly, I would wait until the first of December before booking. Maybe even a bit longer.
