Any tips for travelling from Ireland??

Hi all,

After several trips to DLRP over the past few years we are now on the countdown to our first ever Orlando trip in April 2012. We have already booked a villa in Clermont on recommendation from friends so the next thing to consider is the flights. Has anyone on here flown to Orlando from Ireland before and if so are there any nuggetts of information that we should be aware of. We are pro looking at one of Aer Lingus direct flights to MCO on a Sat but this is going to cost the family ( 2 adults and 3 kids) about 3,500 euro. Any suggestions or feedback greatly appreciated on this aspect or anything first timers to The magical land should know.

We flew with Aer lingus from Glasgow via Dublin and onto MCO. We loved them great service and good choice of movies and food was not bad either. We did the saturday flight as well.

We are planning to fly with them again in October.

Check sites like Netflights and other comparison sites to see which other airlines fly from Ireland.

I fly from dublin all the time Aerlingus are great I can not fault them at all. I also do indirect flights with continental and delta take a bit longer than direct but still not too bad you now do customs and immigration in dublin so that will save a lot of time when you get to the states are you going to fly from shannon or dublin. Any other questions just ask I will do my best to answer

If you don't mind me asking Irisheyes are the direct flights a better idea with young ( 4 Year old) kid.Just think i'd be too stressed out trying to watch him and keep him entertained in between flights.

Id say so its a shorter trip and no having to get off and get to another gate we did dublin- Newark and onto orlando in october with an almost 3 year old and he was wrecked when we got into orlando we left dublin at 9:30am and it was around 12 midnight irish time when we arrived in orlando so it was a long day for him

We were almost decided on the direct flights anyway - I forgot to say it will be Dublin..... Its a lot closer for us that Shannon...

Just too add aerlingus each seat has its own tv screen and plenty to watch on it lots of children's shows and movies also it has game on it to play any time I fly the flying time did not feel as long as it is

No problem at all and any advice you need about parks ect they are very helpful here and they are always happy to help

I would go direct too
watch out for any sales from Aer lingus
we always try and stay the night before at the airport too

you can go by Belfast too with a stopover in New york ,continental airlines we have done this way a few times and spent a few days in NY

also get a good guide book and ask lots of question here

We always go Via Dublin, not direct with AL, usually indirect with who ever is the cheapest.
We always go July,usually stop in London or Man, this year because of the price its 2 stops, Dub to LHR then Chicago, not much of a stopover in london, and in Chicago its 2hr 45 min ,so by the time we do Immigration and change terminals , it will be nearly time to start boarding.

We are also a family of 2 adults and 3 kids and have flown with American Airlines, Virgin, Continental and Aer Lingus and would definitely vote for going direct with Aer Lingus, especially now with the customs and immigration in Dublin. Our youngest child is 8 now and definitely struggled on the flight without seat back entertainment, when we first went she couldnt see the overhead screens at all. We need to do very little to entertain the kids on the flight when they have the seat back screens. Going with Continental via Newark was fine but at the time the flight left Dublin at 9AM which was very early and then on the flights from Newark to Orlando you had to pay for seat back entertainment. However if the price difference was worthwhile Continental would be our second choice.
