Since we had to cancel MVMCP trip this year, we are going to do Hershey Park's Candy Cane Lane. We've never been before. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions?

have you been to Hershey at any other time of the year?

I've never been there in the winter, only in the summer. so I can't give specifics. if you've been there before, most of what I'll say is something you probably know anyhow.

at Christmastime there's no admission to the park, and only some of the rides are open -- you pay as you go.

In Chocolate World (outside the gates of the amusement park) -- the ride that shows you how chocolate is made is free. there's also a great 3-D movie. and a gift shop/snack bar area that's incredible.

I don't know if they do the trolleyride in winter. it's a tour of the town, and the tour guides are costmed characters who put on a show.

My best advice is once you think you're dressed warm enough... add another layer or two. We were there last year and I can't remember when I was so cold. The best part is going back into the gift shop/snack area like Briar Rose mentioned AFTER you're frozen to a crisp for yummy hot chocolate.

The kids loved it! The rides add up fast and between our 2 kids, a $20 book of tickets doesn't last very long. cha ching!

Don't expect to see something like the Osborne's light display. They kept mentioning how many millions of lights they put up in Hershey, but it is spread out alot compared to the backlot that is "dressed" for the Osborne's display. I'm not saying it wasn't nice, just different.

There are Hershey characters wondering around the park, too, for pictures with the kids.

All in all, it was fun, and I've had a coupon for something off something on my refrigerator since June for this. Just have to decide when to go.

Most of the rides are closed. Only littler type rides are open same with Zoo america, and Chocolate world.

We were going to go, but the kids said it was "baby rides", namely no coasters open!

We went one year and thought it was just OK.Only a few things are open and many of them young rides. It was nice to go once, but we would much rather go during the summer when the entire place is open.

Honestly, if this is the only thing you are driving any distance for, I would say skip it. As someone else said...it is no Osborne Lights. But if you are simply passing by, then OK. How about heading down to DC or up to Philia?

There is one Sunday in January that opens up Zoo America (no rides) and the Hershey Museum for free. Maybe that would be better and add Chocolate World.

Sorry for the negative...just my opinion.
