He has a manual chair. It has 2 big wheels in the front to allow him to (try to) push himself. It is very light. @ 15 - 20lbs. He started walking 10 months ago (he wears leg braces) but long distances wear him out fast, so we will be using the wheelchair. I will be pushing it. I am planning on taking some breaks where he can walk around for a little bit. He has good days and bad days muscle tone wise so I want to be prepared. He is my little thrill seeker. He loves roller coster rides, parades and fireworkd although he will hold his ears and cringe when they pop!!! But don't try to keep him from seeing them!! He loves Mickey and Pooh (of course). He is really into the Incredibles and Cars right now, He also likes the Play house Disney chaaracters. There just isn't much that he doesn't like.
My DH does walk and doesn't normally use an
ecv, but long distances wear him out also and on Dialysis days he's pretty drained. They can both get out of their chairs for any or all the rides. He is into art (he likes to sketch) He knows he's not going to do TOT!! But other than that he's pretty open. Of course we don't even know every thing there is to do yet!! We're still looking and reading these boards to try to get an idea. Oh Yeah, My DS7 is into POC even though he's never watched it!!!!
We just got back from our Wish trip and I will hopefully get a TR specifically for Wish families in the next week. We had a truly magical time both at Disney and at Universal. Ds is 5 and into a lot of the things you mentioned for you ds. I cannot help much with wheelchairs as we don't use one but we did use a stroller as a wheelchair and that was a great experience. Here's some info that may help...
Mk has a Wish lounge (as previously mentioned) that is AWESOME! The guest service members are awesome! They will go out of their way to help in any way they can for you. It is by first aid, has bathrooms right there and it looks like a very comfortable living room with a TV (with Disney shows and movies showing). My kids napped in there in the afternoon. It was nice and quiet and cool and they gave us water and juice and gatorade. We were at MK on two days and spent several hours in there both days. I would highly recommend spending at least two days at MK. Oh and the lounge is centrally located so we could go back in between lands if we needed too.
MK- coasters, parades and fireworks.
Our kids were under 40 inches so we were "only" able to do the Barnstormer at MK (there is also one at Sea World and at Universal). Ds loved it. He rode it over and over and over again. We made him get off every two times as I think the cast members would have let him ride over and over again. We would get off (after two rides), do something else and then come back. They didn't mind and always had a big smile on their faces, ready to call him by name and accomodate in any way they could.
We saw both the 3pm and 9pm one day and the 3pm the next day. Both are awesome and worth seeing. Ds is into Peter Pan so he wore an overall set with PP on it (made by my MIL), his birthday button (got at Guest Services), his "1st Visit" button (also at guest services) his MAW button and his GKTW button. You would think he was a celebrity with all the attention he got. We showed up for the 3pm parade at 255pm and got front row seats at the handicap accessible area. Mickey is of course in the parade and there are Pooh characters (don't remember which as my kids aren't into Pooh). I would recommend going to
youtube and looking for the parades and viewing them ahead of time to familiarize yourself with them. The evening parade is a completely different animal but just as wonderful to see but not as much interaction with the characters as they probably can't see much themselves.
I would recommend leaving right after the parade and trying to catch the ferry right at about 10pm (or a bit after) to watch the parade from the ferry. it was awesome to watch the parade without the noise! (Ds also has sound issues). It also wasn't very hard to get out of the park that way. If not, then just bring earplugs.
Incredibles, CARS and Playhouse characters are at Disney-MGM. Go to the steve Soares site before you leave and get the characters and showtimes to plan your day as there are several Meet and Greets. There is also a Playhouse Disney Meal there with Leo and June (from Little Einstens) and JoJo and Goliath (from JoJo's Circus) and it was worth going. If you don't get ressies, stop anyways as they may be able to squeeze you in anyway.
I gotta run but will check back with you later and let you know when my TR is up!
