Any tips for a vegetarian solo traveler?

Does anyone have any food recommendations for a vegetarian (lacto-ovo)? I'll be solo, so I'm mainly looking for counter service options. I wouldn't rule out a sit-down, though, if there's something totally worth it! Thanks...

At Pizza Port in Tomorrowland, you can get the (delicious!) fusilli with parmesan cream sauce without the chicken...they dish it up to order, so just ask them to leave it off. So yummy!

At Rancho del Zocalo in Frontierland, they have a cheese enchilada plate with beans and rice. It's not the most authentic Mexican food, but it's good for what it is. Bonus is that the dining area is spacious & well-themed.

Here's a link to all the menus (with prices) at the DLR: http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/menus.htm It's very useful for meal planning!

Thanks so much for the links to the menus and previous veggie thread! Great info...

The Mexican places are pretty basic with the veggie items, but pretty good. BIG portions (unless they have been made smaller since last year).

Vegetarian Gumbo and Chili are very good IMO. If you don't want to waste the whole breadbowl, ask for the soup in a bowl (small small bowl, but ultimately rather filling) and the bread in a bag. Deelish to have just a few hunks of bread with butter (since you're lacto veggie) with your chili/gumbo, and then have even MORE bread later on.

I like the very basic penne with marinara at Plaza Inn, with a side salad. When on my own I just get a kid's meal of the penne, which comes with a small water (or a soda or juice if you want that instead), apple slices and carrots if memory serves. The full plate comes ith a full breadstick; the kid's meal has a half breadstick. So the kid's meal is just about half of the pasta and bread, with the other things included...add the same side salad, and I'm a happy camper!

At one character breakfast I went to, they had morningstar farms veggie sausage in back and made me a whole bunch of them for no extra cost. :goodvibes

Basically, they are really good to work with on the ovo lacto veggieness! :)

They have veggie burgers and a grilled cheese kids meal at White Water Snacks in the Grand Californian Hotel.

It's a nice place to have lunch because it's rarely crowded (no one really knows about it) and if you sit outside you might have a kitty come to visit. You can go in and out of the GCH entrance from/to DCA (they have a sign up saying it's just for guests with a GCH room key, but I've been told by the CM's working there that it's just for morning entry, really; it's not crowded during the afternoon or evening, so they don't mind letting people through).

The veggie burgers at Taste Pilot's Grill are the real veggie kind, not gross sawdusty Bocas.

The veggie skewer at Bengal BBQ is really really tasty.

You can get vegetarian chili in a bread bowl at both Coke Corner and Pacific Wharf Cafe.

They have corn on the cob at Troubadour Tavern.

Oooh which character breakfast was that? I've been wanting to go to Goofy's Kitchen but would like something besides bread and eggs. lol.

Also to the OP, I would suggest Nachos at Whitewater Snacks without meat - its like a dollar cheaper and still delicious!

As a sugar free vegetarian (lacto-ovo) that was at DL earlier in the month, I loved the veggie chilli at Pacific Wharf Cafe in CA. It was thick, rich, hearty and you couldn't tell it was meatless. The penne pasta with marina sauce in the kids meal at the Plaza Inn was consistantly of high quality, good portion, and excellent. I also enjoyed the veggie gumbo at Royal St Veranda. Nice and rich with fresh jalapeno pepper, spicy but not overpowering. I liked the 3 cheese veggie gratin at the French Market. What I didn't like was the bean burrito kids meal at Rancho De Zocalo. The portion was tiny, and the rice was undercooked, dry and basically inedible. Not sure if I'd be willing to give it another try. The food at Redd Rockets is always good, but their kids meals are the smallest in the park (IMHO). I had the cheese pizza kids meal there, and the pizza was the size of a coaster. It was very good there though. I frequently at kids meals at the parks as I'm a light eater, and can't eat the larger portions. If you are going CS there's no problems ordering kids meals for an adult. Hope that this helps you out.

It was at Storytellers. I should mention, though, that I never asked for veggie sausage at Minnie's (where I had THE most disgusting eggs I've ever ever had! and I disliked everything else at that breakfast, sooooo disappointed) or at PPH (when it was the Lilo and Stitch b'fast). They might have had them, but I don't know!

It might have changed permanently, but I've had lots of ups and downs with that kid's meal, and with RICE in general at DLR. It just seems to depend heavily on who is making the rice. Had the same experience at the Asian place (Lucky Fortune?) at Pacific Wharf as well (by the way, the tofu with sauce was relatively tasty). One day we had PERFECTLY cooked rice, I mean perfect. (Hubby is Korean, and he knows his rice) The second time, half of the rice was hard and crunchy. Not sure if they scraped the bottom of the rice pot for it, or if it was just a useless person making it and they put only half the water in. Either way, ouch! Crunchy rice is not a taste sensation, and hurts the teeth.

We've had more good burrito experiences than bad, though. But the last time we had one was last year, so things could have changed entirely by now.

OP, if you call the dining people and are successful at being put through to the chef in charge of special diets...you can leave a message with requests/questions/needs. They will call you back, and you can tell them when your character meal is, and they can *maybe* make sure there are some veggie sausage patties there. When i talked to Chef Chris, he said that he had recently made a RAW "lasagna" for a guest on a raw diet...now I believe that was at Napa Rose, but still, they WANT to take care of their guests. :)
