I posted this on the parks board but thought I would post it here too.

Ya'll we are scheduled to leave for the world next week. We have two medically fragile daughters and are concerned about the flu outbreak. Anyone that has been lately or lives there have any input on it? Thanks in advance for any thoughts and advice.

They're reporting one strain of the flu in Orange county and another in Seminole county. I wouldn't fault you for reconsidering, not necessarily because it has made its way here, but because they'd be at high risk just due to the environment. If you're flying, there's that added risk.

well.........i was just down there and now I have the flu........of course 2 members of my party were both sick and the weather was hot, cold, warm, sunny, then cloudy, rainy...........it was back and forth the whole time and I had a sweatshirt on most of the trip........so...........don't just go by me.......but I think the weather might have alot to do with it.........Have fun on your trip and just prepare for any kind of weather right now!!!!!!

Well, to be honest I'm not sure it'd be the parks that I would be more worried about, moreso the airplane ride there and the recylced air.

If it were me, I'd have them wear a mask from when you leave your house till you get to the hotel. And bring lysol to spray your room down.

While in the parks, I don't think there will be much you can do with some many people in such a small space, but you can hope anyone with serious symptoms would stay back in their hotels (hence lysoling the whole room when you get there). Bringing along antibacterial wipes or gels and using frequently would probably be a positive thing too.

Good luck!

We flew back on Sunday, and my dd got sick on the trip home. They say the gestation time for that stuff is 1-4 days, so whatever she caught she got it at the parks. She has had a fever of 101-104 since we got home, cough, stuffy nose and occasional vomiting. I am sure she got it from all the handrails and everything else that everyone touches. I tried to wash her hands and used hand sanitizer but it must not have been quite enough. Luckily no one else in my family has it yet, crossing my fingers. I am not sure if she technically has the flu, but she definitely has some sort of virus. I commented to my husband down there about how many sick people were out and about. We saw a ton of runny noses and heard lots of really awful sounding coughs. I am not trying to be negative, just letting you know what we found when we were there last week.

We flew to WDW last Thurs. night. I am a hand-cleaning freak. The entire time we were in the airport I had baby wipes and hand-sanitizer out cleaning us and the kids constantly. Seriously, if they touched anything, their hands got cleaned. Same thing at the parks. I even wiped down the bar on the rides. Two days into our stay we all got sick at the same time, hard and fast. Knocked us out flat. DD-6 temp. went to 105 degrees at one point. Symptoms were everything from vomiting, diarhea, coughing, chest pain, dry sore eyes, terrible headache, congestion, fatique, body aches, hmmmmm, anything else that your body can do to you, we had it.

I truly believe we got it on the plane. Just from the air circulation. Doctors have said it couldn't be flu because of the stomach troubles that accompanied it. It may have been strep. In any case, it was the most memorable vacation of our lives.

Good luck!
