Any thoughts on hotel in San Diego?

Hi,

I need to book hotel room for dh, 2 kids and I in San Diego from May 8 to 11. I have been looking and looking and looking at reviews, sites after sites and I'm starting to get fed up...

Anyone have any recommendations on a clean, convenient hotel? I would like not to pay more than $100/night and something maybe out by the Mission Bay, Coastal areas (yeah, I know unreasonable at this late date and out in 'prime' areas... dream on...)

But since we will only be sleeping in this hotel room, I think Mission Valley/Hotel Circle will do.

Have you ever used www.Priceline.com? We used it for our Anaheim/San Diego trip last year. We got the Hyatt La Jolla for $58 USD/night. A beautiful 4* hotel. Our friends got the Hyatt Orange County in Anaheim for $28/night.

But before you bid on Priceline, use www.biddingfortravel.com as your cheat sheet. It gives you a hotel list of all the hotels currently accepting bids on Priceline, the current bids that are being accepted, and some reviews from travellers. You should definitely read the FAQs that are outlined there. Some really important rules you must understand, most important being that you cannot cancel your transaction after your bid has been accepted. Check it out.

I wanted to use Priceline, but the registration only gave option for US-residents (I think). For example, the billing address is only for US states. Or is there a way around that?

Hi Hipmaman...haven't been on the boards lately...so busy with this sunny, warm weather we're having in B.C.

With the U.S. address that they require, I use my brother's address. He lives in New York. You can use, for example, a relative's address or your company's U.S. address, if it has one. They don't mail you anything. Everything is confirmed online and Priceline charges straight to your credit card. Hope that helps you.

Thanks, but I got around the US address thing as www.biddingfortravel.com show you. I was successful at getting the Hyatt Islandia for $80/night (a 3-4 star hotel). Wish me luck that it's not a hole in the ground, lol

We stayed at the Hyatt Islandia for about 10 days a little over a year ago... Its a very nice hotel, only a couple minute drive from Sea World... You'll enjoy it... Our kids loved watching all the sea lions that are in the harbor/marina area directly behind the hotel... The sea lions can be kind of loud in the mornings when they start barking if you have your windows open. Its funny, we were amazed by the sea lions, but all of the marina employees there find them a pest because they like to jump up on the swim platforms of some of the nice boats and the wooden floating docks there to sun themselves, and when several of them jump up the weight damages the platforms... Thats a great price you got too, I think our conference rate was around $130 or so...
