Halloween is right around the corner and for the first year ever I have not dipped into my Halloween candy stash, which I am very proud of. However, I am not so sure I will be able to resist the loot DS brings home on Thursday. Has anyone given any thought to how they might resist the temptation to dip into your kids candy bowls? If so please share them with me, I am a sweet person and I know this will be a major issue for me.:scared1:

I am also a sweets person, so I hear what you're saying. I have a double whammy this week. As well as Halloween, it is my youngest DD's birthday on Wed. So I'm going to have to deal with b'day parties and more importantly b'day cake :( as well as the Halloween candy. I don't have any specific plan for dealing with the temptations. I'm looking at it like this. I'm making a lifestyle change so there are going to be challenges and temptations all along the way. I have 2 choices I can deal with the challenges or I can give in to them. If I give in to them, more than I deal with them then I am never going to get this weight off and keep it off, so I'm just going to grit my teeth and deal. Plus I don't want to give up my cheat free star ::yes:: Good luck to all of us dealing with Halloween candy I know that we can all come through it unscathed!!! :grouphug:

I hear ya!! My girls trick-or-treated two weekends ago at a local campground so the temptation has been here that long already! But I know a new fresh batch coming in Thursday night will make it harder! I'm a big big sweet tooth - just ask my PM buddys. Chocolate kills me, and this is DMS week too!

Let's do this together! So far my strategy has been to pick and choose what I "steal" looking for the lower pt candy (3 musketeer, etc) but to be truthful once I start I throw that thinking out the window and just inhale whatever looks good. This is why I am very disappointed with my WI over the past month or so, lack of self-control!

I also told myself I would legally count every bite of candy I ate. ok, I didn't do that either, but my plans were good. Just not realistic for me I guess.

So I'm left with, staying out of the candy! That's for me though. Maybe if you picked out some goodies and put them in ziplocs labeled with the pt value, then you can pick and choose without actually digging through the mass?

Good luck! PD to you!!! Hang in there!

I have not bought the trick-or-treat candy yet. I'm afraid to bring it into the house. My kids are in marching band and they have a football game, so they will not be bringing tons of candy into the house.

I just started again with my cheat free star clippie and I really don't want to give it up so soon so I'm going to try my best to resist the temptation altogether. I think I'll stock up on SF jello and whipped cream so I have a legal sweet treat handy at all times.

Good luck, all!!!

Sending tons of*~*~*~*~**PD**~*~*~*~*~* to all of you!

I wish I had some really inspired advice for you, but I do not. I do think you could do it though. We are a strong group. Maybe you could have a family member deal with the sack of goodies.
My biggest problem is the stuff I give out! The stuff they bring in is usuallly garbage and not worth the trouble, but I get the stuff I like to give to the beggars, and will do a one for you and you and you and you and one for me! So I fixed that this year. I'm leaving town and taking the kids to a party and not giving out candy at all! I have also noticed that I really don't have a craving for sweet stuff lately. Don't know how that came about, but I like it! Good luck to you all! Remember...
NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS THIN FEELS!

Keep the Faith!

I just got the WW email newsletter today and what was the topic??

did you get tiggerlover?? PM if you want me to email it to you~

Perfect!!

For some reason the first thing that popped into my head was caramel apples. Then I remembered that I went to a Pampered Chef party where they made this really yummy dip for apples...it was supposed to resemble caramel flavor, but it wasn't made of caramel. I think they used cream cheese, crushed pineapple, and some brown sugar. I will try to find the exact recipe, it really was yummy! Just slice up some apples and dip.

Okay, I found the caramel apple dip recipe, here it is:

Caramel Apple Dip
Ingredients:
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup apple butter (see below about substituting pineapple)
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup peanuts, chopped
5 apples or pears, wedged

Directions:
1. Combine all ingredients except peanuts and apples in Small Batter Bowl; mix well. Chop peanuts using Food Chopper; add to Batter Bowl. Mix well; chill.

2. Wedge apples using Apple Wedger; arrange around dip and serve.

Yield: 16 servings (2 cups)

Cook’s Tips: Apple butter can be found in the jams and jellies section of most grocery stores. Substitute 1 can (8 ounces) crushed pineapple, drained, for the apple butter.

Also, just wanted to share that two of my friends don't like pineapple, but they really enjoyed this dip and didn't think it tasted like pineapple!

Can you tell that I haven't really thought about what I am going to do when the candy comes home?!?! I do have a plan for what we are giving out though! Mini-bags of microwave popcorn!

Molli, would you mind sending that email to me? Thanks!

I decided this year to play it smart. I am giving out candy that I don't like, but the kids love (Airheads and Blowpops) I have also decided that I will save enough points to have 2 snack size (not full size!) candy treats. I will limit them to what DD doesn't like. I have tried in the past to say "I will not eat any treats", but somehow I then "sleepwalk" later and eat most of the stash. Hopefully this way I get my treats, but stay on program. I love sweets and my big thing will be to learn moderation. Halloween will be my first big test! Good luck to all!

We have a football game that we have to cheer on halloween, and DH is out of town for the military so even my youngest DS6 will not get to go trick or treat. There will be trick or treat bags given there though. It should be fun, and I am pretty proud of my son for making the decision to go with us.

I already took one piece from a bag my son brought home from the end of the year flag football pizza party. It was a 2 point Recees Peanut Butter cup. I think the main thing is to allow yourself some (if your plan allows it), eat it in moderation so the temptation to "cheat" doesn't happen. I will probably have one more piece this weekend, and then that's it. I am so much more powerful than it this year.

Good luck to everyone.

Melanie

Thanks all, I appreciate your responses. I see a lot of you talking about the points, how do you know how many points the Halloween candy is when there isn't any calorie content on them and most of them don't even have the weight listed on them?

ohmom, PM is on the way.

I had a bag of assorted fun size bars at school that we will be using in my Specila Ed class to practice trick or treating. I looked up the points for the 3 kinds in the bag. For 1 fun size Baby Ruth it is 3 points. For 1 funsize Butterfinger it is 2 points. For 4 fun size Nestle Crunch bars it is 5 points. For 2 Nestle 1000 bars it is 4 points. Hope that helps!

I'm dealing with Halloween by not dealing with it..lol. I'm going out of town and skipping Halloween this year! :p

Oh no!! :( I've been counting the mini Baby Ruth's as 2 pts!! I could have sworn I checked the points! Can anyone else verify this???

tiggerlover, my WW leader passed out a sheet with the points counts for quite a few of the different Halloween candies--I'll have to see if I can find it and post it when I get home.

I don't have kids, so my big temptation isn't candy coming inside. My biggest temptation is that I have 2 Halloween parties on Friday. One is at work and the other is at a friend's house. The only good thing about them being on Friday is since I weigh in on Saturday, I know I can't "fudge" a little and have some (whereas if it were on Monday I would be more tempted to have a little and try to work it off by my weigh in). I am making butterscotch "haystacks," so I will have to not sample my own cooking, lol. At my WW meeting two weeks ago, a lady shared a mantra she says works well for her:

Don't Even Start

She said that if she doesn't start sampling things or snacking or "just having one little bite" she is not as tempted to go off program. So I've decided that it's easier for me to avoid the sweets at the parties alltogether than to try to only have a little. Of course, that's only for me, and others may be fine just trying a little. I think that would just cause me to pig out. I also keep reminding myself that I have worked hard this week, and the sweets aren't worth blowing a possible weight loss.

We have no halloween parties and Travis doesn't live here anymore so no trick or treat bags to raid. We have decided not to hand out treats because we have so few trick or treaters ring our bell.

That's how I'm dealing with halloween :)
