We live in an area that is currently unincorporated, next to Kankakee, IL and is a mostly rural area thats starting to see more development.. I would guess a good description of Limestone Township would be its scattered development, perhaps 6,000 people living in a 10 square mile area, mostly in about 10 subdivisions.. Now the city of Kankakee, population 30,000, has started to annex into the township.. Being nice, Kankakee is considered a rough town with a bad reputation...
Kankakee has an average house price of about $75K, Limestone Township has an avg price of about $250K...
So now a lot of people in Limestone are pushing for incorporation of the community.. So the question is, are we better off being part of Kankakee, with established water, sewer, fire, police etc??? Or incorporating and starting from scratch with no sales tax base???
The big concern of the people here is that Kankakee is going to allow in any kind of development (ie affordable housing) to keep up with the other communities in the area that are starting to see urban sprawl from the Chicago area..
