Any thoughts on AKL Standard Rooms?

After calling once this morning... and being told there were no AP's for our stay at CBR, we called back and for less money, got a Standard View room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge! Never stayed there, never even been there before. So... Is there a "better" standard view room location? Floor? What to ask for? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Our AKL Standard view rooms were in Ostrich Trail on the lobby floor. {3rd} They were great rooms. Very quiet and the view wasn't bad at all. Our balconies were in front of the handicap parking area but not far enough down to see any cars. There were lots of trees and bushes between the lot and the lodge. We could not see the main road either. Also just down the hall outside of our room was a big window where we could see lots of animals. There are public viewing locations all over the lodge. Ostrich Trail isn't as close to the pool and restaurants as Giraffe Trail but it is much more private in my opinion. We also really enjoyed being on the 3rd floor because after a long day at the parks we just came through the door and took a short jog down the hallway to our rooms. The bus service there is terrific too. You will love AKL. We are going back next trip. I don't think I could pay my family to stay anywhere else. Be sure to try the breakfast buffet at Boma. It has everything you could ask for and is absolutely delicious. Have a wonderful trip.

We've stayed there in both the savannah and standard views. Our first trip was a std. view overlooking the pool/hot tub area. It was a nice location. We really did see plenty of animals. It was very quiet even though we were close to the pool. I think we were on the third floor. We were very close to the elevators which went right down to Mara and the pool and not far from the lobby. One area I tried to avoid is to be at the "very end" of the resort. I've heard there are very long walks to most things. We enjoyed the location and room.

Our second trip in May was savannah view. I have to be honest. I would probably not spend the extra dollars again for this view. My entire family thought we saw the same amount of animals in the std. view. We were disappointed. We were close to everything but we did have some noise problems. With the balcony door open you could hear other people out on their balconies. Not as quiet.

I think you probably got a free upgrade to pool view disneyfanatic60. All the standard view rooms are on the front side of the lodge facing the parking areas and main road. This hotel is known for giving alot free upgrades. How lucky for you. We are going to book pool view next trip. Our luck with the complimentary upgrades isn't too good. LoL
