Ive been reading put out all the clothes we think we'll need and cut in 1/2 - but how? Any suggestions appreciated. I already have 3 lg suitcases (1 with the "stuff") and a 1 medium sitting here partially packed. And of course we ea have our carry-ons.

Was thinking we could wear our dinner shirts from night before or that night while at sea but the boys wear tshirts w/their bathing suits and not dressier shirts.
Since we have 6pm dining will sometimes have these shirts on for 5plus hours anyways.
Already planning on at least 2nights for ea pair pants.

Anywhere else to cut? Please dont say "DH's pants" - lol

Well, there's always the bachelor's "4 days out of a pair of underwear" trick. ;)

Hey, I resemble that remark, LOL!!!:rotfl:

Leave one of the "large" suitcases home as well as the medium...

We'll soon be on our fourth Disney cruise and just pack the bare necessities. I take 1 pair of dress shoes for each of us, 1 pair of pool slides, and we wear our athletic shoes on board. Most of my dress clothes are in black, beige and white so they are quite interchangeable and we only pack 3 or 4 t shirts with the understanding that we will buy some in port. Just remember that there are laundry and dry cleaning facilities so that always helps. I'm a simple girl (no clothes horse here) with a simple plan nut I hope this helps!

EEEWWWWW!!!

SHOES are often one of the most overpacked items on a trip.

They take up a lot of space, and in truth you really don't need a different pair for each evening.

never been on a 7 day cruise just 3 & 4 days but we have a rule in our family, if you can't carry it, you don't need it. We generally only take carry on bags, saves time spent waiting for luggage at the airport

DH won't wear pants so that is a lot of free room and DS does not want the ties :)
Personally I think if you are going to rewear the same dinner clothes at least rotate them...........

Pack enough for the first couple of days and formal nights and buy the rest as you need it...

Jim - Have you been talking to my husband about not needing different shoes for every evening? He keeps telling me the same thing!

Way to go Jim!!!

My DW, DD, and I, each had one pair of dress shoes, one pair of sneakers, and one pair of aqua shoes for our 7 day cruise.

Since my post was edited by the mods to change what I said, I'm deleting it myself. I would prefer to say nothing at all rather than have something attributed to me that I did not say.

Personally, I'm not doing laundry on vacation.

Some people here had some nice suggestions.

I agree about limiting shoes--one pair of dress shoes, one pair of sneakers, and one pair of thong sandals for around the ship for my next cruise. If anyone would've seen my selection for our last cruise--they'd have thought I was trying to give Imelda Marcos a run for her money!! (And on that cruise I realized what a waste of taken space it was!).:p

I second the shoe suggestion. I always overpacked shoes on our first 3 cruises. On the last cruise I only took 1 pair of black sandals that I could wear every night, pair of sandals that could get wet and a pair to wear any other time.
If you know you will buy t-shirts in port or on the ship then only pack 3 or 4 for each of you and wear your new ones. I have found this saves a lot of thinking ahead of time.
We usually only pack 1 bathing suit apiece. They dry quickly and we don't care if people see us in the same ones each day.
Hope this helps.

So you've only got one suitcase and one carry-on per person?

Sounds pretty pared-down already to me!

Everyone will need one daytime and one dinner outfit per day, plus swimwear, plus toiletries, plus shoes. If you don't take much beyond that, then that's my definition of "pared down" already.

A few pieces could be recycled, especially if you do laundry or send clothes out to be cleaned on board.

On our last cruise, we used the ship's laundry service liberally- just sent out all the dirty stuff each day and it showed up the next day clean. It was wonderful to come home with a suitcase full of CLEAN clothes!

Kathy, how much does a load cost to send out, if you don't mind my asking?

(BTW-congrats on your wish loss! That's fantastic!!! You can be so proud!)

Thanks :)

That sounds great BUT.....what was your cleaning bill for the cruise? And, did you send everything out?Including socks and undergarments? Or just the shirts/slacks/dresses?

And, I'm not doing laundry on vacation...not ever!

I made the mistake of trying to do laundry on the cruise. I wasted 2 hours of my time hanging around making sure I kept track of the laundry so as to be considerate of others who were waiting, and the laundry room on deck 6 was oppressively hot. NEVER again! How much was it to send the laundry out?

Thanks
