DH and I will be at Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun Casino this Saturday night. We're staying the night in Groton and are thinking of spending the morning and early afternoon in Mystic. (we're open to another town too). We don't want to do the aquarium because we want to do that with the kids. Any suggestions for two forty-somethings? Thanks a lot.

Have you ever gone to Mystic Seaport? It's a recreated seaside village. Right in Groton is the USS Nautilus museum with lots of info about subs, and you can actually go on the USS Natuilus. Or if you like ancient ruins, you could go to my son's house :rotfl2:.

no suggestions but I'll be at foxwoods too! :wave2:
Have no idea what we'll be doing besides that we'll be playing bingo and staying in mystic. Going for a friend's bday.

Have fun!!!

There is the museum at Foxwoods.

I live in Mystic. There is so much more to do in the summer. Check out the seaport. I work at a local school and still love going there on field trips. The have a planetarium there too. Shopping is nice in downtown Mystic, but it won't take much time.

Also the Pequot Indian Museum next to Foxwoods is pretty awesome. And you always have the option of shopping at both casinos. There so much to do there.

Good Luck and have fun!

Dittos on Mystic Seaport, the Sub Base (US Nautilus), and the Mashantucket Pequot Museum. The Sub Base won't take too much time to go through, so if you have a whole day you could do that plus one of the other two. If you like reading all of the placards at museums and really get into them, either of the other two could take the majority of your day.

I am jealous. I used to live in that area, and miss it so much, but if you have kids, the Aquarium is awesome.

Short drive over the border to Rhode Island to Westerly there are (or used to be) great little shops similar the the Mystic area. If I remember correctly there are museums too and Watch Hill RI is great if you are going during the summer. Even this time of year there may be things open, but I'm not sure. If you like to shop there are outlets in Clinton just a short trip up 95. Also in nearby Waterford is the Eugene O'Neill theatre or Harkness park which will have concerts in the summer. New London state pier is something worth seeing as well as walking in downtown New London. Hope this helps. PM me if you need more suggestions.

Olde Mistik Village (no typo; that's how they spell it) is a quaint little village of shops, right next to the aquarium.

Also, in New London you can tour the Nautilius, the first nuclear powered submarine.

DH and I went there for our anniversary and we loved the aquarium! I know you said you will be going there with your kids but it was an amazing aquarium and if you want to go with the kids then you can go twice!

Op here.We went Saturday night into Sunday. This is what we did; Saturday night, Mohegan Sun, slot machines and dinner at the buffet. Wanted to try the Irish pub but we were starving and the wait was long. We broke even playing slots so our entertainment was covered:) Sunday we were up early and had breakfast at The Equinox diner...OMG good. Had the Mystic French Toast, so good. Goin to try to duplicate it at home. We then walked around the seaport and downtown waiting for the shops to open. Around 11 we headed over to Olde Mistick Shoppes and spent a few good hours. Picked up a few unique gift items. We then had lunch at Mystic Pizza on our way out of town. The pizza is awesome. We also got an Italian sub that was just average. We were glad we went out of season as we were able to park and walk right into everything. It's a great overnight destination for any one within driving distance. Thanks for all of your suggestions.
