I think the Kindle Fire HD would be perfect for her. Not too expensive, but still a good tablet. I have heard all good things about the Kindle Fire.

price ranges a bit for the 7 inch model depending on the size of the memory and whether or not you allow sponsored ads on the screen saver.

Highly suggest the Nexus 7. Once of the BEST tablets on the market and you get all the Android updates way before other vendors.
