If so, which are your favorites??

Mine are The Stand and Green Mile, but I've never read a book of his I didn't like.

I used to love Stephen King. I haven't had the time to read much of anything in a while. But I actually have a bunch of his stuff waiting to be read.

I loved The Stand. I have the hardcover long version, which I have read more than once. I loved the Shining too.

Cujo was the only one I wasn't crazy about.

I still need to read The Regulators, Gerald's Game, the Dark Half, Desperation, Storm of the Century and Insomnia plus all the newer stuff.

Big fan, but like some better than others. I never got into the Dark Tower series or the ones he co-wrote with Peter Straub. Loved The Green Mile, The Stand, Misery, The Dark Half, and his non-fiction On Writing.

I used to love Stephen King but since hubby works 3rd shift and I am alone at night I can't read anything scary anymore! My favorites have always been the collections of short stories. I also always read the ends of the books where he talks about where he gets his ideas, etc. before reading the book ;) . I don't think I have read one that I didn't like.

Love Steven King! When we go to Maine for our summer vacation, we stay in a cabin with no TV or computers, and I always take the latest! Unfortunately, last year I brought Dream Catcher - which was set in a cabin just like ours! I made DH check the toilet for me everytime I needed to use it!

I'd have to say, my favorite is Pet Semitary followed by Thinner. I also like Bag of Bones.

The only one I didn't like was Dolores Clairborne.

All the movies made from his books aren't that great, with the exception of the Green Mile.

Love Stephen King although I haven't kept up with his latest.
My favorite books are Pet Sematary and Thinner
and favoritemovies Misery and the Green Mile.

LOVE Stephen King. I've read almost all of his books, with the exception of the newer stuff (law school put a stop to my reading for pleasure). I need to start up again, though...after Harry Potter. :)

My favorite, I think, is Desperation.

Hi Adrianna!

Stephen King is one of my few passions greater than WDW! I've been a fan/collector ever since I read 'Salem's Lot back in 1976 and I was a wee lad of 14. I've read all his books, all more than once, some many times. Asking which is my favorite is a little like asking a parent to pick a favorite child! If pushed, I'd say The Stand is my fav, also love the Green Mile, IT, Bag of Bones, Black House and The Shining. Anxiously awaiting the release of Dark Tower V, the Wolves of Calla, this fall!

I've got lots of signed/limited editions, but I think my favorite collectible is a note he wrote to me in the early 80's in response to a letter I sent him. I think it was probably just before he stopped responding personally to all his fan mail.

I'm so depressed that he has announced his retirement following the next 3 Dark Towers. Hopefully, he'll get bored and change his mind!

Oh mee meee.... :)

My absolute favorite is The Mist.... but I LOVE all the others too... :) I have almost all his books... paperbacks mostly but am trying to collect the Harbacks... I hate some of the newer covers of the older books... yhich. :)

Gosh I need to get to re reading some of those babies ;)

I like some of them. Others I don't care for. The last one I read was "The Dreamcatchers."

Hated Kujo, and Misery. Isn't it funny how gorry, scary, and gross so many movies are, but when they make one from Steven King's, it doesn't do the story jsutice. Like Misery....did not "punish" him like the book...and Pet Cemetary didn't scare me like the book. Yet so many other movies don't "tone it down".

For his movies, my faves are The Stand, The Shining, and The Shawshank Redemption.

For books, I'd have to really think about that. I liked "It" the book better than the made for TV movie.

I'll have to get back to ya on his books!

NNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! PLEASE say it ain't so!!!!! So he's just planning on finishing the Dark Tower Series and THAT'S IT?? Oh, I hope he does get bored!!!

My fave SK book, in fact Fave book of all time "The Stand". It's one of the only books I have ever re-read! Well, actually I re-read the entire Dark Tower series before the latest one came out.

As far as I am concerned the man is a total genius when it comes to writing. I will agree with quite a few on this thread and say The Stand at it was one of the first books by him that I ever read. I must admit that I only discovered King in 1998, my first trip to WDW and red a collection of short stories, my favorite being the Shawshank Redemption. One has to also love the Springsteen lyrics found throughout his writings.;)

My Dh is a huge fan.
When he was single he had a roommate that had relatives that lived near Stephen King so he has most of his hardcover books autographed.

The IT book it awesome the way he did it. I'll bring it to work and scan it so you all can see it. But that will be one Monday!

I had the ORIGINAL Copy of Carrie when it first came out.....couldn't tell you where it is now! I knew he was going to be BIG after I read that!;) :o I have his latest short story, but not THE latest, I alas, have not too much time to read.

The Stand is my all time favorite book, I adore Stephen King.

I love Stephen King! My favorite books are Salem's Lot, The Shining, The Stand and Desperation. I also love a lot of his novellas and short stories with The Mist being a particular favorite.

The movies are a mixed thing for me. The Green Mile was good and so was both versions of The Shining in their own ways. I liked The Langoliers and Rose Red too. The Mist is supposedly in development and I can't wait for it!

As for retiring, he comments on the rumors in an interview with amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/feature/-/455676/ref=mk_0503_king_interveiw/102-9160865-0101724 ):
I did an interview with a lady from, I think, The LA Times, and she said, "What's in the future?" I told her everything I was doing, which at that time was finishing the Dark Tower books, and I was working on writing 13 episodes of a TV series called Kingdom Hospital. I said, once I get those things done I'm going to push back because I've pretty well said everything that I have to say. And she jumped from that and said, "You're retiring?" And I said, I've said pretty much all I have to say and if that's retiring that's what I'm doing. So, the story came out. Stephen King is retiring...or whatever.

I can't see me reaching a point where I would stop working, because I really enjoy what I'm doing and it passes the time. I'm entertaining myself. John D. MacDonald said that once. "I'm entertaining myself before I entertain anybody else.

But, having said that, I would say, in a way, having finished the Dark Tower, it puts a real bow on the whole package. It does kind of summarize everything else. And I think, after that, that everything would be almost kind of like an epilogue to what I've done with my life's work.

Was that yes or no? ;)

Has anyone seen Dreamcatcher? I missed it while it was in the movies, I'm dying to know if it's any good, the book was great. I hate to hear that he's retiring also, but I think things just run their course, and he's toward the end of his. I think his best is behind him, he's been through a lot in the last few years, and I think it's just fizzling out for him. But I have the utmost respect for him and his work. I'd love to meet him.

I also loved THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON, being a baseball fan that book brings back a lot of memories for me as a little girl.

I am also a huge King fan. Have all his books but haven't read the last few recent ones yet. Need to get on that reading. But out of the ones I have read, I would have to say that two of my favorites would be: Eyes of the Dragon (not his typical style) and Cycle of the Werewolf. I don't dislike any of them!! Will be a sad day when he stops writing!:(
