Am just thinking about restaurants for my solo trip next May, I'm staying at AKL and have eaten before at Sanaa (loved it!), never tried Jiko but it's on my must do, particularly sitting at the counter, but am also thinking about Boma. I'm not a big buffet kind of person and I'm not sure if I'm going to feel 'uncomfortable' as I've heard it's really busy, particularly with families - I'd be interested to hear anyones views on eating at Boma? :confused3

Thanks

I've eaten solo at Bona's dinner buffet twice. Both times it was pretty noisy, but the second time I went I ate very late, so the noise quickly died down as they stopped taking new reservations. And my server was very nice when I asked for Cafeine-free diet coke, and although they didn't have it, he somehow got me a can from somewhere else. The only problem is that carrying a plate full of food back to your table can be a bit of an "obstacle course". Lots of kids doing exactly what mine did when they were young-seeing something they want on the other side of the room, and not noticing anyone in between, like that lady trying to balance her plate of food back to her table. My kids were awful for this when they were little. However, the variety there is very good.

I've done Jiko (sitting at a table, not counter... for those prices I'm not sitting at a counter!) It was great.

Boma was also great. I think I read a book some of the time at Boma, but there was always plenty to look at when I wasn't.

I've done Boma three times solo. Never felt uncomfortable. Everybody is busy with thier own tables, no one will be paying attention to you.

Hi Clare

I've eaten at Boma with others, but did not as a solo. I did noticed ppl who were solo and they seem to enjoyed themselves. I've book Boma for my Oct trip and currently plan to go solo so I can give you my 2 cents after my trip...:goodvibes

I've done it for breakfast, and it was a very pleasant experience. They gave me a table with a nice view, and the server was just the right level of attentive for a buffet.

Thanks everyone, I'm definitely doing Jiko (so many things on the menu I like the look of at the moment) and I think I'll do Boma too :)

Teresa, look forward to hearing what you think after your October trip.

Hadn't thought about breakfast. I just might have to change my ressie...:scratchin

I did Boma solo last year! I loved it, and didn't have a problem I even left my empty camera bag at my table (well under it)
If you go start with the zebra domes first! you will not be sorry
