We live in Northern Alabama, we go to DW sometimes down I-65 hitting I-10 in Florida and taking it to I-75 or we go down I-65 hitting I-20 in Birmingham then taking I-75 out of Atlanta. Going I-10 is a less hectic ride but does anybody know if I-10 has smoke on it since I saw on CNN that there are fires all across the panhandle? I know alot can change in two week when we leave for DW! Hey also if there are any Georgia people out there how are your gas prices? Someone told DH that they are alot cheaper than here in Alabama.

I dont know how the smoke is now but last Monday when we were coming home around Lake City there was a lot of smoke. We went on up I-75 to Valdosta and cut over. The gas prices in Valdosta are pretty good. Wednesday they were $1.48 at most places. We live in southern Ga so I cant tell you about the gas in North Ga.
I'll pop this over to the Transportation board. They might know more over there. Thanks for posting and have a wonderful trip. :)

Gasoline prices can vary significantly from state to state, both during a time of an oil glut and what we've seen recently with availability closer to demand. A significant percentage of the price you pay at the pump may be taxes. States derive their revenue from different sources. Some states have an income tax. Others do not. Some states/cities assess a sales tax for all goods and services. Others limit sales tax to only certain goods and all or only some services.

The same applies to liquor and cigarettes, which in some states are heavily taxed and less so in other states.

While you may think the taxes you pay are limited to what is added to the price on the shelf, etc., that's not so. Often that shelf price, in the case of liquor, cigarettes and gasoline, already has tax figured into the shelf price.
