I'm going to show my wildlife ignorance now . . . are the seals in La Jolla year round?

We will be in San Diego the last week of April, and we want to be sure to see the seals. Any advice on where best to see them? Any other less popular beaches in the area where we might see seals?

By the way, yes, we are going to Sea World San Diego also, but we'd love to see the seals in their natural habitat.

Thanks in advance!:)

Yup! Check out the harbor seals at Children's Pool in La Jolla Cove. They are there all year long (thanks to the Governor overturning the legislation that was meant to kick them out!) There are also usually native sea lions in the area too, but the cove is for the seals.

That's awesome! I was so nervous that we would drive over there and be disappointed. Thank you! :)

No problem! I was just there last week. I head there often to take walks. You can't walk up to them on the beach as they are protected, but they have a walkway along the water's edge where you can get up close for pictures - just watch out for the occasional rogue wave, you can get a little wet ;)

Yikes, thanks for the warning! I'll be the photographer, and the kids will be the wave alert system. Can't wait!:)
