I'm really thinking of getting satellite radio service but I am so confused on what to get! I'm leaning more towards XM (becuase of Howard S. and Martha being on Sirius) but I haven't made up my mind. Also, I want a player that easily goes from the car, to the house, and is portable for exercising (etc.) and won't cost me anything to install.

So, does anyone have either service? If so what player do have and would you recommend it?

Well I have Sirius, so I don't know how much help I will be. ;) One thing though, Sirius has truly commerical-free music channels. I thinks some of XM's music channels now have commercials.

The only portable available with Sirius right now is the S50. However, when the S50 is not docked (say you are wearing it for exercise) you cannot receive live content. You have to record content to listen to then. You can record Sirius content OR you can load MP3s onto the S50.

I actually have the Sportser Replay for now, waiting for a Sirius LIVE portable. I love my Sirius! :woohoo:

I have XM. Delphi XM SKYFI2. It easily goes from car to a boombox type this that I can have out in my shop or bring in the house or take outdoors. I love it and it is great.

My new Hummer H3 came with factory installed XM and there are quite a lot of channels that have commercials. Not all but a lot. My 90 day trial runs out in 3 days and I'm not signing up to continue.

I've had XM since 2001. None of the music channels that I listen to have commercials. :confused3 I love XM and couldn't imagine life without it. I don't have a portable player though. Mine is installed in the car. DH has the a portable XM thingie. I forget the name of it, but its sort of like a walkman kind of thing. He can plug it in while driving, walk with it, put is on his desk at work, etc. He loves it.

In late spring/early summer, XM will add six regional News & Talk channels (XM 134-XM 139) that will, for the first time, provide regional news coverage for every area of the continental US and complement the recent addition of acclaimed Cincinnati, Ohio talk channel, WLW - XM 173. These channels will be provided by Clear Channel Communications and will be located in a new category on our channel guide called "Regional News, Talk & Music Channels."

This new category will also include Clear Channel programmed music channels Nashville - XM 11, Kiss - XM 21, Mix - XM 22, Sunny - XM 24, plus WSIX - XM 161 (launching soon) with acclaimed country personality Gerry House live from Nashville. Please note that Clear Channel will start carrying commercials on these music channels in May, so they have been grouped separately from XM's 69 commercial-free music channels on our new channel guide.

Granted a lot of the XM music stations are commercial free, but now there are some that are not.

Ditto.

An there are no commercials on the XM channels. Now when you are listening to Kiss, or disney, or any national channel yes they have commercials (of course) but the xm channels are all commercial free, with the exception of them promoting their own stations.

P.S.
I have had xm for 4+ years now

As an XM subscriber, all I can say is get XM, or get Sirius, but get satellite radio. Greatest gizmo ever.

For the record - Clear Channel was an early investor in XM. As part of the deal, they got the right to operate 5 channels on XM. They recently forced XM to adhere to the agreement, even though Clean Channels' stations have commercials, while the rest of XM's channels don't. XM added 5 new channels with similar content, so the total amount of commercial-free music channels was unchanged.

I have Sirius and my dad has Xm.

I find that i get better reception more of the time than he does.
I also like their lineup better.

YOU want Sirius so YOU can follow your Steelers all the time, anywhere! The NFL channel is on Sirius.......

i love my sirius radio, well mainly because of howard stern and bubby the love sponge! i'm in my car for hours everyday and doubt i could survive without it. i get great reception and love the commercial free music, although a rarely listen to music.
downside, the lack of bleeps.... my kids hear a lot of curse words and nasty content, usually i catch it but some things slip through.
:::disclaimer::: i NEVER let my kids listen to howard or bubba!

That means you leave your house on Sunday's......how dare you!

NFL SUNDAY TICKET BABY!!! ALL GAMES ALL YEAR IN VIDEO FORGET AUDIO :rotfl2:

Leaving the house on sunday, I swear.......unless it's for food & drink, but even then a true football fan is prepared.

We have XM in our new van and also a portable Delphi MyFi unit that we use in the house. It can also go in our other vehicle or be used when walking/jogging. We bought ours from Amazon. We wanted XM because it has MLB.

Sirius came with my Scion xB. I love satellite radio. Currently, XM is the only one with a portable, handheld device, though. It doesn't sound like you want to walk around with your satellite radio like a walkman, though. Either one, then would suffice. I like sirius because everything is free and there are no "premium" channels...

good luck whatever you decide...you'll love it either way!

whoops, just re-read the OP...well, then you might lean towards XM. DH wants to get sirius, but is waiting for them to come out with a portable, live device like XM does. Currently, the only portable device for Sirius is the sportster, I think, and it records shows/music for you to listen to later...

I dunno... I seemed to do just fine! ;) :teeth:

LOL... actually working at the tv station every sunday, I can see 3 - 5 games at once! :thumbsup2

We have XM's here, 2 portable MiFi's and one installed in vehicle. They work great. I like the portable, take it with me on trips, listen to prerecorded on the plane. Several of the new line of portables have some super features, such as 50 hours of recording. And no commercials.

Another happy XM subscriber here too. The only commercials are on the national stations (CNN, ESPN, RadioDisney, etc) They recently added several national Clearchannel stations toward the top of the dial. They still have over 100 commercial free stations to choose from, plus about 50 national stations with commercials.

Hmmm :scratchin I didn't think about the NFL channel. Radio just isn't the same as video (especially now that Myron is gone  )

Thanks for all the info everyone. I think I am still leaning towards XM. I really like that portable Delphi unit. The display on my car stereo is acting up (common problem with Explorers) so it really is pushing my decision making!

I didn't know that they had one with 50 hours of recording. I'll have to check those out :thumbsup2

The funny thing about our portable MyFi is that I got it for my DH because he was always wanting to drive my new van because of the built in, factory installed XM radio. So I bought him the portable unit, but he hasn't even installed it in our old van yet and keeps the unit in our house. He's still taking my van... Guess I need to buy him a navigation system for the old van. :teeth:

Well, I ended up buying a complete Delphi MyFi XM2Go system on ebay with 10 months of service left for $150 :cool1:

I can't wait till it gets here :Pinkbounc

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I'm sure I am going to love it!!!
