Any Samoyed owners?

I know this is a long shot, but I'm trying to find a puppy. We just tried adopting a rescued mixed dog and it didn't work out, ended up growling at us whenever he had food or a treat and couldn't be trusted around kids so we decided we want a Samoyed puppy.

Dh grew up with one and she was so sweet, his best friend, great temperment etc., and now he wants ds to have one , but we're having trouble finding one except for a few breeders who want a fortune for them. (One top breeder wasn't even willing to let us buy one unless we were going to show it... she didn't think it was funny when dh jokingly said, "I'm sorry ma'm, but it doesn't sound like my five year old son is worthy of your dog." LOL.)

Anyway, just wondering if anyone knew of anyone who is willing to sell us a puppy who will just be a loved indoor well trained family pet. It doesn't have to have papers or be show quality perfect. We live in Georgia and would be willing to drive to pick up, and I have experience obedience training a Chow Chow, so I don't think I'll have a problem with a Samoyed.

I just wanted to say good luck finding a puppy. I think Samoyeds are beautiful!! Can you find a rescue dedicated to Samoyeds? I wonder if this is the type of breed though where a rescue won't place one in a home with a child?? I have a pit/sharpei mix and will defend the "bully breeds" until I turn blue.

You can also check out breeders.net to see if there is a breeder in your area. I think a lot of them listed on this site are for family pets as opposed to show dogs.

Here is the website for the National Breed club. It is a good place to start. They should be able to recommend suitable breeders. You will probably run into one or more like the person above, but keep trying. The key is to find a reputable breeder and not a backyard or petshop dog. Just be persistent with the recognized breeders and you will find the perfect puppy.

and here are the breeders in a 3 or 4 state area. See the breed club website under breeder referral if you want to expand your search. Start calling the ones with an "i" in their listings as those are the ones that are open to imparting information. Finding a good breeder that will support you throughout the dog's life is a wonderful thing!

Wow, thank you both. I printed the list of names and the list off of breeders.net and I'm waiting for the lady from the Samoyed's Club of America to get back to me. I was told by one of the breeders that I talked to that she's having some health problems and it may take her a few days. I've looked at so many web sites and emailed so many people, I'm getting dizzy, LOL, but someone will hopefully get back to me with a perfect match. I'll let you know!
