Any rumors of an AP deal?

IF they offer one you probably wouldn't be able to save it that long. Last time they offered it you had to activate if before December of 2018 (offered in fall of 2017)
that's what they said -- but I squirreled an extra one of those as a test case and didn't have any problems activating it in July 2019. When the voucher was on my account, it stated it was good until 2030 -- so my advice is to squirrel them away if you can afford the upfront costs. Caveat would be to make sure that the voucher shows 2030 expiration before buying multiple.
The vouchers will always be worth whatever you paid for it (thus the 2030 expiration). For example, a recent deal offered 13 months for the same price as for 12. But that offer did have an expiration date, so if you didn't activate by the end of the offer period, you would have to pay the difference between what the voucher cost and the current price of the AP.

That doesn't mean a CM always processes the transaction according to policy and it's certainly possible to get some "pixie dust", but that shouldn't be counted on.

(thus the 2030 expiration)

I thought the tickets that you had to pay the difference on had the actual expiration date on them. Then, after they expire, you get the value to use towards a new ticket.

Could be. I honestly don't remember what the expiration was on the ones we bought for the 13 month deal. I thought it had the 2030 expiration with a note that the 13 month part was only good through whatever that dates was. If I can find the email confirmation, maybe it will be on there.

I do recall it saying it had to be activated by the end of 2018. I just don't think they coded the vouchers that way.

My understanding was you never lose the value of what you paid..just lost the deal. Similar to Groupon.

I loved the 13-month AP! As someone who travels the same week every year, the "regular" (Gold) AP doesn't do me any good. With the 13-month option, I was able to get 2 trips off of one pass. Now that the price of a 5-day park-hopper is over 3 months of mortgage payments, our family will probably not be taking annual trips to the WDW parks after next month. Even with all of my creative saving techniques, the value is just not there anymore. I can justify $600 for the Gold AP's *if* I could use them for 2 trips. Since DVC offers fixed-week contracts, it would seem logical to offer the 13-month AP option for DVC members to encourage an annual trip, even if it is the same week each year.

This is exactly our problem as well. 13 month passes would be perfect for us!!

At this point, is there any downside to buying hopper passes with the intention of upgrading to an AP during the visit?
Seems incredibly unlikely that APs will increase in cost over the next 2 months.
This is the issue i am having. We are not going until July 2020, so if I bought regular PH tickets and waited to upgrade to AP there is a chance between now and July there could be an AP price increase. The likely hood of an increase happening in 2 months is less likely seeing they just had an AP increase before GE opened. So you would probably be safe to buy your PH now and then upgrade when you get there.

we had tickets from UT that expired Feb 2019. We couldn't go because of health problem. We ended up going in April 2019 and were supposed to pay the difference. When we got to MK and in line at GS the young lady would not charge me an extra $300 for the difference of the 2 (6 day PH's) and just said we were good to go. That was our magic for the year

No 'inside' information, but I can't see one happening before the year's end. I think RoR has to open before they do anything, and if that does not offer the attendance bump they are hoping for then perhaps....

They have a lot opening in the next 2 years.
Rise of The Reisitance
Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway
Guardians Cosmic Rewind
Tron
Ratatouille

That is 3 E ticket attractions which to me seems like a lot in 2 years so they have a lot to generate draw, but also a lot to make people wait.

I hope I'm wrong and one is on the horizon!

I'm with you. Everyday it seems to be another increase, food, drinks, tickets, etc. I would love an AP deal, but don’t think it will happen. I’m expecting Tables in Wonderland increase next....been awhile.
