Any Reviews of the Ramada Maingate?

I am flying in late and looking for a cheap/nice hotel to spend the night before checking into the Disneyland Hotel. Does this one seem okay? Do you think it would be an easy walk to the Disneyland Hotel from here?

We stayed a couple of nights in the Ramada Maingate two years ago, so things may have changed since then.

We found the rooms clean and comfortable, and we felt that they were a good quality. It's a two story hotel, and all of the doors open to the outside--there are no interior corridors. The night staff was unfriendly and unhelpful, but the day staff was the opposite--I wouldn't consider it Disney-caliber customer service, but nice enough. The pool had an interesting theme--palm trees are still interesting to this mountain-bred family--and there was a hot tub next to it. The continental breakfast was donuts, toast, and I think there was some fruit. Parking was just fine, I didn't notice any overcrowding or difficulty finding a spot, but then again, we travel during slow season.

Sorry, forgot to mention that it is indeed within walking distance of the main gate. We normally stay at the PPH, and in my opinion, the Ramada is a much shorter walk to the park!

Bottom line: I liked the rooms and would stay again if I based my decision on the rooms, but I didn't like the way we were treated by some of the staff, and that would make me think twice before booking.

Granted, it has been a few years since I stayed there, but the rooms we had were horrible: noisy, no air, moldy bathrooms, dirty bed spreads, towel racks pulled out of the wall, COCKROACHES, smelly. The staff was unresponsive to fixing anything. The pool area was neglected, the "continental breakfast" consisted of stale muffins and bagels, luke warm instant coffee and watery OJ. Our experience was so bad that, for several years, we traveled back and forth to Disneyland (35 minute drive) rather than stay. We have since discovered Best Western Park Place Inn for about the same amount. Just my opinion.

Mary Jo just did a photo thing on this motel - if you look through this board I am sure you will find it. It looks clean and nice from what I could see.

I've also heard good things about the HoJo Anaheim, if that helps. I don't know if you're interested, but here's a thread that talks about both the Ramada Maingate and the HoJo

I am almost embarrassed to say this, but I just stumbled upon this site. I had no idea that there was something out there like this. Some people have posted over 50,000 times?!?! That's crazy! And I thought I was a Disney Freak! Ok, so as my first post, I thought it would be good to talk about our favorite hotel at Disneyland. Especially since it hasn't received muh love lately, at least on this forum or blog or post or whatever it is called. I told you that I am new to this stuf. Anyhow, Ramada Maingate is our favorite. When I saw some of the pictures of hotel, it was a bit funny. Things have definitely changed. First off, I saw that this hotel is listed in the economy section with the likes of Motel 6, etc. I can tell you that it is much nicer than that. Actually, we have stayed at Disneyland Hotel a couple of times, and those rooms have nothing on the rooms at Ramada. They have and are doing some construction, but from what I see so far, they are gonna be even better when they are completely finished. All of the buildings(that aren't getting work done) look amazing from the outside and the room we stayed at in a newer tall building was very nice and we had a great view of fireworks at night being on the top floor. The pool is nice, the breafast is adequate (free), and the location is perfect. Anyhow, I don't have pictures now, but I will try to post them soon. Take care, G

Here is a link to the website. I hope that it is ok to post this. I didn't read the rules when I signed up.

Oh, it won't let me until I get over 10 posts. I like the challenge and will start my trek to 50,000 starting now :cool1:

We stayed at the Ramada Maingate a couple of years ago. It was fine - clean and well kept but no modernized like like ParkVue. The breakfast is a bit of a challenge as well because the facility is small and there was only about three tables to sit at around the pool. The food was fine though.
Their service is top notch; I complained about a smelly AC and it was quickly replaced while we were in the park one morning.
I would say that if you can get a deal there then go for it - but I prefer Park Vue or the Best Western Park Place because of their superior breakfast and slightly closer location to DLR.

We've stayed there twice with no issues. It's a perfect walk to the parks, even with little ones in strollers. Breakfast leaves a little be desired, but they are currently renovating and making a larger breakfast area. Rooms are a little older but they have a new building with Superior Rooms if you want to pay a bit more for newer/nicer furnishings. Otherwise, we've always been happy. No cockroaches or moldy bathrooms that I noticed. Nice little fridge, small table for the kids to eat their cereal at... no complaints!

Easy to miss, but the original post is from 2004.

I imagine JC Butterfly made his/her decision. :)

(As the music from Jaws looms in the background) oh my god! Can it be? No! no please say it ain't so! it's another zombie thread!
better watch out, these zombies are hungrier than ever and are after fresh brains!
