Any Resorts to Avoid for Solo Trip?

Hi all!

I may have convinced myself to take my first solo trip to Disney in 2016. I have always felt exceptionally safe at the Disney resorts, but I have always stayed with my family.

Part of me thinks that I would feel safer with a deluxe since they have inside entrances, but I am not sure I want to pay deluxe prices for just me (I think I can be happy in most Disney resorts).

I am considering AKL (have stayed here twice and LOVE it- and can get very reasonable rates on a standard view), CBR (never stayed because I usually try to cut down on walking due to others who travel with me- would love to try), CSR (never stayed- never seemed to fit our group requirements of low walking and good value- would love to try), POR (stayed once in a RR- loved it), POFQ (staying here in a couple of weeks for a family trip), and Pop (not sure I want to stay in a value- I love the savings, but I also love a nice, relaxing, well-landscaped resort atmosphere).

I love to walk at Disney and have no problems with long resort walks, but I plan to stay until close at the parks and want to feel very safe returning to the resort. The location of the resort itself is not a big deal, as long as it is Disney.

Main priorities: safety, good value, relaxing resort atmosphere

Resort suggestions? Specific room request suggestions?

I did a solo and stayed at POR magnolia bend and I felt safe. I also had some "alone time" after an incident that my travel partner stayed over night in the hospital, and I walked through POFQ main area to my room and although 3am was creepy, I was ok. As it's well lit.

I think going back to any resort at park close there will be someone around. I would request to be in the middle of the resort area because you are alone and not be on outer edges. There are creeps everywhere so even at Disney you still have to be careful. Stay alert to your surroundings.

I did a solo in January and rented dvc points to stay at animal kingdom. Ended up being cheaper then staying in a moderate!! I only wished I could of been in jambo house which is my FAV. KIDANI was the only available studio. Still had a blast though. Going to do another solo this January but decided to stay in a studio at the Beach Club sine I spend most my time in epcot. I would plan around where you spend most your time. I love AKL but I lost a lot of time traveling back and forth. If it's a short trip time is everything.

I plan to visit all four parks, so I will have travel time regardless. I also love AKL and when we booked for our July trip, a standard room was cheaper than any available moderate room. I would be tempted to stay there yet again if discounts make it comparable to the moderates. I have an AP, so I will have to see what discounts are available for what resorts when they are released. Part of me wants to try CSR or CBR or Pop simply because I have never stayed at those resorts previously. But it is hard for me to choose to pay more to stay at CSR than to stay at AKL.

Stayed at CBR and POP for solo trips. Trying POFQ for my next one. Safety has not been an issue at any resort-I stay til park close too...Lots of folks around at Pop. Central bus stop means there will be others around and the paths are well lit. CBR has a lot of stops so the bus may get you close to your village, but again no safety issues. I like Pop as a value resort because the bus system is the best. I was disappointed in the food court area my last stay-it has gone downhill but it was pretty good at one point. CBR is a fun resort and well themed. Pop has a fun over the top theme...I think all the resorts are great-depends on what you want-if you are a park warrior who just wants a place to rest your head-Pop is great for that. If you want a more relaxing vacation and a resort with some amenities, then moderate or deluxe is for you.

I stayed at POR last year as a solo and was very lucky to be placed in Building 16 (which I believe is one of the preferred locations). Anyway, it was a short walk across the car park to the main bus stop and on the several nights I stayed till park close (including EMH so getting back at 2am) I never felt unsafe. I'm not sure how I would've felt having a long walk around the lake back to my room but across the well lit car park within screaming distance of many people (lol!) I felt fine. I'm from London so I'm very used to always being aware of my surroundings so as long as you keep your wits about you I'm sure you won't have any problems, whichever resort you choose.

I do lots of solo trips and I don't mind outside entrances. I figure that that way if I scream, I'll be heard all over the resort, not just up and down that hall. Of all the hotels I've stayed at solo, the only one I didn't like was A S Music. The route from the bus stop to my room took me by the pool bar, with lots of foul-mouthed, raucous drunks. It was school vacation, so that may have made a difference. I guess being a stodgy grandmother, it didn't set well with me.

I've loved POFQ for solo trips. It is small, so no room is too far from the central building/bus stop, and the manicured grounds and open staircases/wrought iron railings make for good sightlines. Lots of streetlights, and "streets" on a grid, so no wandering around winding paths in the woods. I've found it quiet, but I don't feel isolated. I'm not a night owl (10 pm Wishes is a "late night" for me), but any time I've come home from the parks I've been on a bus full of people all coming home at the same time. My first stay at POFQ I was in Bldg 5 facing the movie lawn and there were always families out and about. When I first decided to stay there, I'd only been to deluxes before and wasn't sure about the exterior doors, but I actually think I' like them better than the possiblilty of long, winding , deserted halls possible in deluxes. See what you think of POFQ on your family trip, but I think it's a nice choice for solos.

I'm getting ready to do my third solo late Sept./early Oct. for F&W. I've done split stay POP for two nights, BWV for 3 one trip, split stay POR - Magnolia Bend 2 nights, OKW 3 nights. I'll be ASSp 1 night/YC 4 nights this trip. I've never felt unsafe at any of them. At pop I think I was in the 60s section, it was right across the parking lot from the bus stop so I would walk across the parking lot at night with no problem. I got up early in the morning (I'm talking not daylight yet) and jogged over to AoA and back no problems. BWV was BWV, long hallways but I would walk to both Epcot and HS no problems and jogged early mornings around Swan/Dolphin over to YC/BC and back no problems. POR I got up early again, before daylight and walked around the entire perimeter and over to POFQ and back (can't jog any more blew out both knees) and never felt unsafe, there was a bus stop at the back of my building so it was just a matter of walking across the parking lot to my room. At OKW there was a bus stop right next to the building I was staying at so no worries there. I've stayed at YC/BC at least 5 times, got up before daybreak and jogged over to Swan/Dolphin over the bridge to BW and back around again with no problems. Just be aware of your surroundings, always carry a cell phone and you'll be fine. And enjoy

I've been solo at AKV, BLT, CSR, CBR, and ASMu. So - inside and outside entrances, and close to bus stops/long walk from bus stop experiences.

It was a tad creepy the ONE time walking from the bus stop to my room at ASMu (I was about as far away from the bus stop as you could get) at about 2am. It was probably 35 degrees outside with a light wind and the 12am-2am EMH at MK had been practically deserted and there had only been about 3-4 other people on the bus back to the resort. I literally had just experienced walking from BTMRR to POTC at MK seeing NOBODY except the one CM cleaning up litter and I could count on two hands the number of people walking from MK exit to the buses. (All rides were walk-in and not full by 1am.) I think it was just so deserted in general for such a long time, it felt a bit surreal. It was just weird. Other nights that same trip when it wasn't so cold or quite as late - there were "enough" people around it didn't feel so creepy.

The WEIRDEST night I came home solo was the night that AKV was per-advertised as having power outages as they were doing some electrical work. I knew the power "might" be out when I got back - but they had plenty of CMs standing around with flashlights to help out folks if needed (rolling outages). My section wasn't out yet - and I made it into bed before the power went out. So - the anticipation of creepiness was worse than it actually was.

But really - I've felt safe at Disney as a solo. Yes - there are times I've felt the need to walk with "awareness" of my surroundings - but that's just smart.

I've only ever stayed Deluxe on my solo trips; I feel more secure, plus I've never really been a fan of outside-access rooms in general..I'm kind of a hotel snob and I like Deluxe amenities.

Having said that, I do LOVE POFQ and wouldn't hesitate to stay there solo in future, especially if I decide to do a longer trip.

I am thinking any value because of the noise, horrible lines at bus and number of kids.

I'm staying at All Star Movies now solo and yes there are a lot of kids but it's Disney and there's kids everywhere! The buses have been great while I've been here, never had to wait more than a few minutes, even when I haven't made it to the first bus. The service to ASMvs has been better than a lot of the other resorts with us getting buses much more frequently at busy periods such as park closing. As for the noise I'm not anywhere near the main pool so that doesn't bother me but you can hear the plumbing from other rooms but I am on the ground floor. I believe it is not such a problem on the top floor

To each his/her own. ;)
Disney has something for everybody.

I stayed solo at the Movies, and the first night as I got off the bus at night I had my first thought about being scared walking back to my room alone. Then I started walking back and the grounds were very well lit and most of the people were either grouped up, families, or no one was around. I suppose bad things can happen but bad things can happen anywhere even Disney. Just stay alert and if you see anyone suspicious yank your phone and call someone (or pretend you are talking to someone) or head back to the front desk area and have someone escort you to your room. Walking alone I probably wouldn't wander off through dark areas and stay to lit paths. So as long as one uses common sense I think any Disney resort is as safe as the next one.

Just got back from a solo trip staying at Pop and would do it again. Have also stayed solo at CSR and liked the food court at Pop better.
