Any recent experience at Atlantis?

I know there have been past posts, and warnings....

But I'm wondering if anyone has had any recent experience actually visiting Atlantis? How was the experience? I know the Bahamas aren't particularly gay friendly but we have decided that Atlantis is too amazing to pass up a several day visit (we visited for litterally one hour while there on a cruise ship...)

Thanks for any tips!

I'm sorry, I don't have an answer but when are you cruising?? :cool1:

I'll be taking my first one in February. :woohoo:

Sorry, can't help you. We refused to get off the ship in the Bahamas.

Niece and brother in law did. They had an ok time. Rented mopeds...

Other niece and nephew visited Atlantis and weren't impressed... said they didn't like the vibe.

We cruised on Oasis of the Seas and stopped at Atlantis last month. We only had an hour there (long story) due to poor planning on the part of Royal Caribbean and weather.

I found Atlantis to be at or above Disney quality in terms of theming and experience. (And We LOVE Disney - Premier Pass holders) The water attractions are far beyond anything offered by Disney - especially the Current "Lazy" River... it's the most incredible water attraction I've ever seen.

During our very brief visit we didnt' see anything of real concern in terms of being comfortable there as a gay couple... I'm just wondering if any couples have spent a few days (as opposed to a few hours) there and what they experienced... also how did they get to Atlantis from the airport, how that went, etc....

I understand where you are coming from - another view, though, is that at least half of the world isn't especially gay friendly and there are still amazing experiences to be had in a lot of those places. I guess it's a choice to simply avoid them, but then who is really losing - you or them?

Having been able to spend a few hours in Nassau/Atlantis I didn't observe anything that made it feel any worse than any other third world developing country (most of which aren't gay friendly).... as I said earlier.. if you love Disney as I do (worked for Disney in college, live in Seattle but hold Premier Passes and visit multiple times per year) you really are missing something if you don't explore Atlantis. Parts of it surpass Disney... and I can't think of any other time I've really ever felt that way about a non-Disney attraction (Universal is close...I guess..) This is why I'm hoping to find some people that have spent a few days there as opposed to a few hours as we have...

I have a timeshare at Atlantis. I agree 100%.
how did they get to Atlantis from the airport, how that went, etc....
Taxi. There's an Atlantis shuttle, but its lower and about the same price as a cab.

Not gay, but I have some thoughts: Atlantis has many business conventions, so seeing two men eat together, walk together, go to the night clubs, etc. is not at all unusual. I imagine on Atlantis property you'd get the same reception you get at Disney.

And Atlantis is so Americanized that the staff have to be used to gay customers.

That being said, I've heard it's not so gay friendly in Nassau. The best message board for Atlantis is on the Paradise Island forum on Trip Advisor. I've seen this subject discussed there before, so take a look.

Regarding your first post: I obviously love Atlantis. It has its service shortfalls, but its facility is amazing. Once you get used to island time and more-flies-with-honey, it’s a very nice place to visit.

Wow - thank you for the great response! Regarding Taxis - are they all safe? Fairly easy to deal with? Anything to look for?

I've heard Nassau isn't friendly but fortunately we don't plan on leaving Atlantis... we've been to Nassau on the ship and I don't see any reason we'd head back into the town except to transit it to and from the airport....

Taxis have a regulate zone fare system on Nassau-Paradise Island, so there's no haggling about the rate. Some of them look a little sketchy, but I've taken my wife and baby/toddler daughter in them several times.

I've been to Atlantis 8 times now. The first time we went into Nassau. Since then I spend all of my vacation time on-property at Atlantis, or an excursion from Atlantis dock/marina.
