Thanks for any ideas you have. In mid April, dh and I are thinking of taking a couple of days, mid week, to get away somewhere nearby. We've been to Niagara/Toronto/St. Jacob's areas many times so we're looking for other ideas. Is there much to do in Collingwood at that time of year? Thanks for your help!!

I know you're looking for Ontario but what about Frankenmuth Michigan? DH and I were there in December and stayed at the Drury Inns and had a great time. What a lovely town and a fantastic hotel! :thumbsup2 And Bronners Christmas store isn't to be missed. Also great dinners at Zehnder's and The Bavarian Inn. :)

Hi :wave2: How about coming to our little town of Paris. Cute little shops, Bed and Breakfasts or the Arlington Hotel. Mary Maxim if you like crafts.Just a thought.

Niagara Falls or Niagara-on-the-lake?

Not sure what you are into but if resorts is your scene, there are a few http://www.resorts-ontario.com/escapes/?season=Spring

Thanks so much for the ideas everyone! I'm going to have fun checking them all out! :goodvibes

I would recomend Frankenmuth as well. It is nice drive and a gorgeous area. And great shopping. As well as the stores in Frankenmuth there is a Prime Outlet Mall in Birch Run which is just down the road.

Goderich/Bayfield
They have some nice inns
I live in Goderich!! I was gonna suggest Bayfield as well or the Benmiller Inn. Goderich has the Bedford Hotel and some really nice B&B. What about Grand Bend, at Oakwood Inn? I have just booked a w/e in Port Huron at the Fairfield Inn for DH and I...1st time in 2 yrs no kids!! DD 8 was bummed I told her she's making me feel guilty and she said "You have kids and that is our job!!" The rotter!! :rotfl2:

We just came back from The Briar's which is at Jackson's Point on southern edge of Lake Simcoe. Have also gone to Bear Trail Inn near Dorset (Algonquin Park) and ST. Anne's Spa near Grafton. I'd recommend all three, altho Bear Trail may be our favourite. The meals were amazing.

How far from the border is Frankenmouth? We would be coming from Guelph.

Dh still has a chance at the all expenses paid trip for 2 to Maui for a week but if he doesn't get that we will also be looking for somewhere for just the 2 of us to go b/c it's our 15th anniversary in June and we WILL be going away without the kids this time!!

Hiya,

try the website www.weekendtrips.com They have some good ideas. I was going to sugest St. Jacob's or Elora but if you're in Guelph then that might not be "away" enough for you! :) There is a good play coming up at the grand theatre www.grandtheatre.com in London and the Delta Armouries is a nice hotel if you choose London. You can often get it on hotwire for 60 or 70 dollars a night.

Pt. Stanley is nice too...it will still be quiet but you could go to Mackey's and have a walk on the beach.

Have fun!

Beth :)

BitsnBearsMom,

I have driven to Frankemuth before, and it was just around 4 hours from Guelph. It is north of Flint and you would cross in Sarnia. It was a nice place but I went there about 8 years ago now. We are actually going to be ding a weekend trip to Chicago and Indinapolis at the end of June throught he long weekend. We are just going to take two extra days of work and enjoy ourselves in Chicago and then go to the F1 race in Indy. This is making up somewhat for our missed disney trip in may.

Another option is the Elmhurst Inn in Ingersoll. DW and I stayed there a number of years ago and really enjoyed it.

Didn't the Oakwood burn down?
Pt Stanley is nice too, we rented a cottage there for the weekend once for our anniversary in Feb. Lots of glass in the cottage A frame, fireplace, walking on the beach (even in winter it is nice). Isn't there a pretty good restaurant down there too?
Delta Armouries are nice and have a great brunch too!
(We don't usually go on big trips you see so we try to go away for a weekend routinely) ;)
Plus we like to eat. The Elmhurst has good food too and the rooms are comfy
There is a really nice inn in Port severn too The Inn at Christies Mill. They have a spa, the rooms are gorgeous and they have a weekend deal with meals included. Nice comfy beds and a fire place.

Collingwood is nice too and there is always the caves to look through
Man we have stayed at a lot of little places!

The Village at Blue Mountain (near Collingwood) is a great place to hang out. Great resort, good restaurants and nice shops. There will be good rates in April as that is their slow season. Check out their website. About 2 and a half hours from Guelph.

DH & I went to the Fireside Best Western in Kingston for our first anniversary. They have a fireplace in every room and have theme rooms (with jacuzzi) as well. It was fabulous!

I know that it is not Southern Ontario, but why not try Kingston? The thousand islands lunch cruise was very nice and romantic, as well it is a good time as they have a comic doing songs as well as stand-up comedy. Good food as well. You could stay at the Ambassador Hotel which is supposed to be even nicer now after renovations than it was years ago when I checked it out. There is alot of things to do there as well and only a few hours from TO. Just a thought......

The Goderich/Bayfield/Grand Bend areas are beautiful in the spring......but I'm a bit biased as we live in Goderich!!!

Good luck!!
