any problems with vasectomy's

OK, I had one. No desire to reverse at all. My actual surgery was quite painful, but only because, apparently, I am unafftected by novacaine and all similar products in that area.

However, I felt 100% fine, and "ready to go"... ( :thumbsup2 ) that night... seriously. That is HOW LITTLE pain I felt after the surgery. And relations were OK within a week.

DH had his in Sept. 05. He whinged a little...but it was mostly trying to guilt trip me...he thinks he's funny. No problems. First and second tests came back with no swimmers. He had (his words, not mine) "the strings" cut and cauterized.

And yes, the worst part for me was continuing on BCP until we were sure things were good.

Oh, and while DH wasn't totally ready to go same night, like Papa Deuce. :teeth: It was within a couple days, if not next day... :thumbsup2 I don't rightly remember.

He should continue using other birth control at least 21 times, then go back to the doctor to be tested.

21 times ? That could be years...

This is going to make me sound like a black widow or something, but both my ex-husband and my DH have gotten a vasectomy.

My ex got a little bruised, and was a little sore for a few days, as was my DH. DH had the new scalpel-free procedure done this past October. Both felt like they'd been "wracked" during the procedure and that was the worst of it.

My DH did have a little problem for a few weeks afterwards, that was totally psychological. Even he admits he was being a goober. (I'd get booted off of here if I posted what it was, but feel free to PM me if you want the gory details.)

My ex has remarried and he did have a reversal about a year ago. Unfortunately it didn't "take" and they're in the process of looking into adoption. From what I've read, the older the vasectomy is, the more rare the chance of a reversal working. His was around 11 years old.

My dh had his 14 yrs. ago and the not want to go back for testing was the only problem he had.

To use a baseball analogy, tell him he needs to step up to the plate and take some practice swings between his "at bats".

Every guy loves a baseball analogy.

Now that I think about it, dh hasn't gone back either...:scratchin :rotfl:

I have a friend at work that had it done during his lunch hour and came back to work after it.....

Mine hasnt either :rolleyes1 Dont get me nervous... four are hard enough to handle.

You guys are hilarious. I want my DH to read this so he will not be nervous, but he might kill me for posting about his privates :goodvibes

Dh had it done when DD was 3. Everyone told me, beforehand, that we shouldn't get it done because we might want more children. So, we actually banked sperm for two years, just in case (specimen collected before the vasectomy). Two years went by after the V and we didn't have any desire to have another child, so we had the specimen discarded. DD had his vasectomy on Friday and his Super Bowl party on Sunday. If I can have a c-section on Monday and drive myself to my hair appointment on the next monday (with DD in tow and nursing), he can do the snip/tuck dance.

It has always been my opinion that until men can have the babies, they should have no argument with being responsible for the permanent birth control.

DH had it done years ago, and he had no problems. I was the one having the problems. I was not ready to stop trying to have children. Even though it took me 5 years and lots of drugs to have the 1 I have. I wanted to give it another try. But after having a tubal that almost killed me, my DH decided that it was just to scary to go through again. Now I am so glad he did it. Things are just easier now. We don't have to worry.

On the other hand, I have a friend who had it done 2 years ago. He was fine the first 2 days, then his wife started to bug him about taking care of her "needs". She would not leave the poor man alone! So he ended up taking over a month to heal!

Yeah and we see his photo!! :rotfl2:

DH had it done and never went back to the DR either. He watched the procedure like someone else said they did. It wasn't that bad according to him. I'm sure it couldn't have been any worse than my "pushing a watermelon out of my nostril"!

My husband was the "one in a million" who have complications. He had his done 5 years ago, and we expected it to be no big deal.

He keep complaining about how much pain he was in :rolleyes2 ....yeah, yeah,.....blah, blah, blah.....I thought he was being the biggest baby EVER. I had no sympathy, if I can have 3 children, naturally, with NO drugs, he could do this.

Welllll, he wasn't kidding  . He developed a blood clot and had to go back in 3 times to have blood taken out of "you know what", with a "BIG LONG NEEDLE" (his words). It took the swelling and bruising FOREVER to go away and his stitches wouldn't heal, they keep oozing and bleeding. YUCK!!

Let's just say it took a whole year for him to have no discomfort and to be totally back to normal. And yes, I feel terrible that I thought he was being a baby :rolleyes1 . But everything is okay now, and funny.....he never went back to check to see if he had any "swimmers" either. I guess it was to many bad memories for him.

This is what happened to Ed,except it got reabsorbed into his body and he didn't need a needle

I am getting this done shortly... Do I even want to know how they do this testing afterwards????

Lets just say you supply a sample.

As in, "here is a magazine, bathroom is down the hall on the right"??????

Mine was painful. Horrid. Unbelieveabe torture. I had a massive double hernia repaired the year before and there was a LOT of scarring and damage from that and the subsequent repair. What really was supposed to be a spin, burn, close ended up being, in the nurse that assisted the Dr at the time's own words "The most difficult and painful that she's ever seen the dr have to perform."

Of course, had I known this all when I had the hernia surgery, I would have had them done at the same time under anesthesia. They couldn't get both of my surgeons scheduled at the same time and my insurance was going to be changing so I HAD to get the hernia done. :(:(

It was explained to me that while I could be numbed pretty much every other place on my body, "The two boys" cannot be, and that's what caused me unending pain as they had to be manipulated quite a bit. And they don't like being manipulated by a surgeon

But of course having said that, and knowing I was an extreme case, I would suggest every guy that is wimping out and not wanting to have it done to step up and be a man so that your wife doesn't have to.
