Any problems with checked bags?

I was going to pack a few of the re-usable gel ice packs in my checked luggages. But then was wondering if there would be a problem with doing so. Has any one flown with these packs in their check luggage? Or something like it?

Why I want to take these, is because of the bad back pain I live with and icing my back a few times a day is very helpful in trying to enjoy the parks. And the one time use ice packs get pricey after awhile.

You can put them in your checked bags the tsa will let you bring gel Ice packs through check as long as you need it for a medical reason. And you declare it to the offices before they screen you bag plus they still have to follow the 311 rule. So just put them in your checked bag since you can put a lager amount.

Are you staying on-site, or elsewhere off-site that has a freezer? I am asking because Disney resort room fridges generally do not have a freezer. I think bigger Disney accommodations do, like studios, 1 & 2 BR and cabins. Someone will have to check me on this.

Actually; that is not true. Any medical liquids needed are allowed to exceed the 311 rule. You'll need to declare it and have them handy to be able to have it checked over if need be, but you are not restricted when it comes to medical fluids needed. If this is the case, you do need to keep them apart from you 3-1-1 bag. I personally wouldn't lug these icepacks in 'larger' amounts around in my carry ons but that's purely based on the convenience part not on what is allowed or not. Doubt Janell would want to take them along as carry on as the usage is intended during the stay, not during the travel. But if she wanted, she could.

I always travel with more medical fluids than exceed the 3-1-1 regulation. Never mind where you go; never a problem. Just be upfront about it, allow a look over if the agent working prefers it and on your marry way you are.

In checked luggage; they don't give squat about what you put in there as long as it's not on the prohibited items list. Ice packs aren't.

If you are going to be putting it in your carry on, then you will have problems getting it through security (probably won't be able to).


If you are placing it in your checked luggage, you should have no problems with getting it there and back.

They just don't want gels in larger quantities in the cabin of the plane where someone with bad intentions would have access to it. That is the reason for the liquid and gel ban and why they have the 3-1-1 rule for your carry on. The 3-1-1 rule does not apply to checked luggage.

Thank you everyone for your feed back, it really does help. We are staying at Pop, so there is no freezer. This past weekend I had the ice packs in a cooler and they were pretty cold. Not frozen, but it will work for what I need it too. The re-usable ice packs get as cold as the instant one use ice packs. So its as good as I can get while traveling. I do plan to put in my checked bag. No need to carry on with me. Thank you again for all your help.

have you thought of taking one of the old fashioned ice bags and fill with ice at the hotel. I keep one in my suitcase just in case.

Yeah I have tried the old ice bag. It doesn't help my back as well. Thank you for the suggestion.
