Hello all..
I am thinking about renting a car in St Maarten in a few weeks and wanted some other opionions on the pros and cons..

I am wanting to know what others felt about the traffic, Parking, and overall problems..

Thanks for any help..

Mike

St. Maarten is great on your own with your own wheels! Our family had a jeep and driving around the island with the sun beating down and the wind in hair was the best.

Traffic is actually very organized - even a few set of stop lights around Philipsburg. The roads are very narrow and winding in spots but nothing too scary. We even drove down front street the one day - dodging people though!

You can get around the whole island in 1.5 hours if all you do is drive. But there are many interesting places to stop - just ask for a map.

My kids thought the day we toured the island was awesome and it is still a highlight of our week there.

What agencies are available and do they carry car seats?

Driving around the island on our own sounds wonderful:teeth:

We rented from our resort but when you get tendered onto the island you are brought to Front Street and there is Avis, Hertz, Thrifty and Paradise Island Car rental. I have the phone numbers from my pocket map that offer 15% off to reserve ahead.

I am not sure about the car seats - I doubt it. These islands are very laid back. We piled all 6 of us into the jeep - my 4 girls fit fine in the back, they just shared seat belts.

If you need any more info just let me know.
