Any planned communities like celebration?

Anyone know of any other planned communities near WDW? I'm looking to buy for retirement, but Celebration is a little pricey.

Florida has many of them. WCI (I think that's the name) has lots and will send you a brochure.

There is one called Reunion that is just west of Celebration near Champions Gate.

It is even going to have its own waterpark!

You might take a look at "The Villages". It is a very large retirement commuity just north of Orlando. You can only live there if you are over 55.

how about somethng NOT in Florida. Perhaps on the east coast, and no further south than SC. Anyone know of any websites for that?

When I retire to FL I don't want to live in a 55+ community. You usually can't have grandchildren or your own children stay over night if they are under a certain age. I like seeing kids in the neighborhood. Annmarie

you know, I am really getting frustrated. If I do a search for retirement homes in Florida, I get pictures of tanned seniors playing golf or tennis.

So far, when I try for any other state, I get wheelchairs pulled up to a dining room table with nurses in attendance.

Surely not all the young seniors are in Florida?????

It's just south of the Atlanta airport. When we leave the military (in 12 years or so) I hope to move there. Our in-laws live there and LOVE it. It's very planned, great schools, variety of neighborhoods and prices, good parks, great community feel. One of my favorite things is the ENTIRE city is linked by golf cart paths, so most (75%) people have one (and most homes there are built with a 2.5-car garage for that purpose). They can take the kids to school, go shopping, go to dinner, etc....all without getting in the car and fighting traffic. The paths are also extensively used for running, walking, and biking and most often, wind through wooded areas between developments so they're nice and natural and shaded and away from busy roads! Needless to say, our kids LOVE going to visit their grandparents and insist on spending most of the visit on the golf cart going to the park, the duck pond, the pet store, or just riding around One of the most popular events is the annual 4th of July Golf Cart Parade Golf carts....they're not just for golfers any more!!

Edited to add: This is NOT a retirement community...it is a whole city!

There is a new planned community being built south of Nashville, TN. It is located in Franklin and is called Westhaven. They have a website, but I am not sure of the name. You can go to www.southernland.com and link to the Westhaven site from there.

Did you see the size of some of those homes in Tenn???? Many are over 8 thousand sq ft. I saw none under 2 thousand. I can't even get my head around a house that is more than 8 thousand sq ft.

As regards the homes in Tennessee, make sure that you look at the Westhaven link. There are several options there under 2,000 sq ft. You were probably looking at Southern Lands other developments. They are much pricier than Westhaven.
