On our cruise in October, we would like to would like to take advantage of Disney's policy to take alcohol on board (a bottle or two of wine to sip while sitting on the veranda in the evenings!).

My husband and I are flying in to Orlando on the morning of the cruise. Since we are flying, we can't bring it with us through airport security. Is there any place to purchase wine near the port? Is it possible to take a taxi from the port to a store? Our flight lands at MCO at 9:55 am. We are taking Disney transportation from the airport to Port Canaveral. I thought about renting a car, but it is just the two of us, so it is not a bargain.

Any ideas?

Nothing within walking distance of the airport or port. Wine is sold at the Publix in Cape Canaveral and there is also an ABC Liquor store which has a huge assortment of alcohol and wines.

We rented a car last week for $60 for 2 days and made our beverage stop at ABC.

There's no place that is convenient and worthwhile unless you have a rental car. There is a Wal-mart on the way to the port and a Publix on A1A (the road where the terminal and the car rental returns are).

I agree that renting a car for 2 people is not much of a savings, and not worth the hassle if you are arriving the day of the cruise. I usually pay about $49-50 for a car including all taxes, etc. A taxi from the terminal area to the Publix will be more than $20 each way....so skip that idea.

You can pack liquids in your luggage for the plane. However, then you'd have to claim you luggage yourself and take the liquid out and place them in your carry on for DCL (what a pain).

If you are on a Western cruise itinerary your first stop is Key West on Sunday and I checked out the CVS which is just a few blocks from the ship...they stock a ton of wine.

We're cruising on October and using the DCL transport. We plan to go by taxi to the Walmart near MCO (MCO website says the Walmart is 3 miles from MCO) in the morning before we hop on the DCL transport. Maybe someone on your meet-up board is planning a similar liquor stop before the transport and you could share a cab?

Isn't there a duty free shop in the airport? I'm tying to remember but can't picture it....but MCO is an international airport so there should be one.

You can only make purchases in a duty free shop in the airport when you are flying out on an international flight. You can not make any purchases when arriving at the airport.

I see from your location that you are in Canada, if you are flying out of a Canadian airport you will be able to make liquor purchases in the duty free shop in the Canadian airport you are flying out of and carry them on the plane.

Hmph! Shows you how much I buy stuff from the duty free shop. :-)

We are on the 10/24/09 Magic cruise.
Since we are flying from Philadelphia, the duty free shop is not an option for us. (but it is an excellent idea if we were leaving the country!)
Going to Walmart is a good idea. This is a silly question, but does Walmart sell wine in Florida? We live in Pennsylvania where all wine, beer and alcohol is sold in state run stores.

Yes they do. We live in DE so it's a strange thing for us to see too.

If you don't mind me asking, who did you rent the car through? We will be renting in a couple weeks one way from MCO to the hotel near the port.
Thanks!

Let me get this right. We CAN bring alcohol on the boat?

YES!!!

As long as it is carried on in your carryons NOT IN CHECKED LUGGAGE, can fit through a standard sized airport screener and containes no ice. You can put it in a rolling cooler, a duffle, a tote bags, whatever.....it just has to be carried on.

You mean you were right here just a week or so ago and didn't stop by??
Hope you had a great time on your cruise :thumbsup2

Shirley, my dear.....I thought about it about it the two times we passed your shop...once it was late and shop was closed and then the morning of the cruise I figured you guys would be busy with baskets to the ship and such....so sorry I did not stop anyway!!!

We are going on the Wonder in January so will pop in then!!! Promise!!!

For DCL, do you put your liquor in your carry on or check in baggage? What types of liquor are you allowed to bring on the ship?

TIA

Yes they do, I called them 2 weeks ago to confirm that they have a complete liquor store (wine, beer, hard alcohol). They Walmart is open 24 hours, but the liquor is only open from 9 am to 10 pm.

DCL allows you to take any type of beverage onboard in your carry on. This can be soda, water, beer, wine, or hard liquor.
