One of the best things about Disney World is that it brings out the best in people. I love that the atmosphere at WDW is so magical. You can always count on having an experience with a Cast Member that is remarkable, over and above normal customer service. That being said, when I went to Disneyland for a short solo trip - I found it lacking that magic. Please tell me that there are pixie dust moments and random acts of kindness. I would love to believe that DL is just as magical as WDW! Right now, I am not convinced. It felt like *gasp* any other amusement park.

We had just found the line for Pixie Hollow and DH was chatting with the CM at the entrance (about the wait time) when DD's and I arrived after parking the stroller. he chatted a little with my girls, found out that it was their first trip to Disneyland - and gave them each a pin to start a pin collection! I thought it was pretty special and extremely nice of him.

We will be there in December and I sure hope that there are still R.A.K. happening. It is so sad that the random acts have all but disappeared and people have become so selfish. I think the real magic is being able to give and see the pure joy on the recipients face! This needs to return!

I'm sorry you had that experience. I just find it SO full of magic, I can't imagine that. In May, my daughter lost her sunglasses and when a CM heard us talking about it, and saw her sad face, they replaced them for us for free (I know they will do this with balloons and ice cream, but I just wasn't expecting it with sunglasses) and gave her a Tink pen. It really made her day.

I personally think these Random acts of kindness are less magical if you show up expecting them.

I was in line for Rapunzel and was hoping to catch Flynn with her. The CM told me to check back later for him. So I came back to stand in line again later and he was there. The same CM noticed me in line and said I may miss him because his time was short. She left and came back to tell me that she spoke with him to let him know that someone wanted to meet him and had come back in line just for him. He said that he would stay long enough over his scheduled time just for me. Oh wow! So when it was my turn he was still there and the CM let him know that I was the one he was waiting for. He greeted me with a hand kiss, and oh Wow! It was so special for me. I thanked the CM and got her name so I could let City Hall know of this kindess act so it would not go unoticed. :thumbsup2

Our May trip was a little rough (death in the family and on of my kids got VERY sick) and over and over again the staff at PPH was incredible. Lots of little magic went on there. When my daughter said that her perfect Christmas would be to go back to Disneyland, she specifically requested to stay there again. I think that says a lot, considering she spent two whole days sick in the room. They brought in soup during off hours (manager made it for her himself and delivered it to her) and a gift bag and balloons to help cheer her up just a bit. Lots of magic, in what could have easily been a less than magical trip.

Yes, and I also think that sometimes, when we expect these things, we also miss them when they happen to us, or right in front of us.

When we were in the Jewelry shop I was looking for a special necklace for DD1. She's technically the one who won our dream suite stay so I wanted to get her something special that she can keep for years to remember (she was only 2 when she won). So I was talking about what I was looking for with the CM working there and she nodded and disappeared. She came back with a beautiful pin and got down on one knee in front of DD (in stroller) and told her that it was a special pin to always remember what a special and lucky girl she was.

Same trip, DD had been eyeing a little minnie mouse stuffie that had a baby blanket wrapped around her. She was holding it on our way out one night. It was Christmastime and SUPER busy along the street so we were having to maneuver fast and dodging people everywhere. We make it to the bus area and realize the blanket is gone. DD was HORRIFIED. DH ran back in to check our steps but couldn't find it anywhere. DD was crying silently (trying to be brave) and I had told her that we'd warned her to be careful but was also tearing up. She had waited for SO LONG for this silly thing. Anyway, next morning DH got the thought to try Lost and Found. We both figured it was probably LONG gone. To our complete surprise someone had turned it in. We were positive we lost it pretty shortly after leaving the store, so I sorta figured maybe they'd think it was off of one from the store or something. The fact that SOMEONE had gone out of their way to turn in something so seemingly insignificant was just beyond magical to me. (And dd! We both cried happy tears!) Whoever you are, thank you times a million. You saved the vaca!!

Oh wow. That manager is AWESOME. :lovestruc

I didn't have any moments like that with CMs, but plenty with other guests. We would share our candy with other people on the train and talk about the rides we were waiting for. That kind of interaction with other guests all enjoying themselves really made it magical for me.

Both the kitchen manager and the hotel manager were just incredible!

Can I tell you that having a sick kid on a DL is my total nightmare. Like..number one nightmare LOL I'm so glad it ended up 'ok' in the end. And it might not have without that manager. He deserves crazy good karma

I agree completely that if you are expecting to receive RAK's then they are less magical. You also miss the true gift of it all. The people that always want something, but never give in return make me so angry. I don't mind people getting things when they least expect it, when they deserve it, or if it is the first time. It is the people who basically get the "extra special" treatment ALL the time and never have to pay for it that irk me. We all struggle and all want what is best for our kids, share the joy for others to enjoy as well.

It was a nightmare I wouldn't wish on anyone. She was so sick. And I totally agree, that the CMs, and that kitchen manager in particular, deserve tons of good karma! They really are amazing!

Funny how that works, huh?

OP: Disneyland is filled with magic. However, if you are hunting for it, you may just walk right by it when it attempts to land in your path. Disneyland is truly a magical place, every day, in its own way, to different people.

That's true. A friend of mine had a co-worker who was so desperately to get something in the "Year of a Million Dreams" promo when the dream team was still out. They never found them and they were locals with an annual pass.

Enter the German tourist who at that point had a 4 day ticket to Disneyland and only comes over once a year.

I bumped into the Dream Team without even realizing it (it was my first time pin trading and I was just cheerful and excited) and they gifted me with a Magical Moment.

Co-Worker was not amused. ;)

You may not see them right away, but there's random acts of kindness everywhere. Last year I lost my room mate and her daughter when we were doing the preferred seating for WOC. They let me in the handicapped area and the CM at the entrance realized I was solo. She kept me company as long as she could and chatted to me. May not sound much, but for me it was definitely magical.

"Thanks" to losing my friend again I was solo at Toontown Morning Madness. On my birthday. (Thanks friend...) One of the CMs with Goofy saw my badge, got Goofy over for me, took my camera and started a very special birthday photo session. I felt like I was on a VIP tour.

Or the CMs at Buzz Lightyear. I love the ride, and the Anaheim version is so much better than the Paris one for me. So my friend and I pretty much spent all morning running around in circles just going on the ride again and again for days. Finally one morning we were about to get off and the CM at the exit recognized us and offered: "You're my frequent flyers, you can go again. Just get off when you get bored."

LOL THIS!! That was my DH..who thought that the dream team was trying to sell him a timeshare or something:lmao:

His Sister in law's family go ALL THE TIME and kept hoping to win something. Luckily we were allowed to invite them to spend some of the special moments of our 'dream' with them. :lovestruc

On our last trip, we were on day 1 of a 6 day park hopper and within only the first two hours of the day we noticed that all of our passes had somehow disappeared from my friend's pocket and were no where to be found. Long story short, we stopped by lost and found and someone had turned them in (they had found them all laying in the street). We went from what could have potentially been a short and awful trip (or expensive if we had to rebuy the tickets) to the most happiest day ever!!! So there are still people out there not in it for themselves...thankfully!!!! :worship:
