So we booked a car for our trip in April. I never planned on getting a car until our last Disney day, but the rental was almost the same price for the full week, so we will have a car the entire trip. Is it always better to take your car instead of the buses to the parks?

If you are staying onsite yes, we drive to every park except the Magic Kingdom. Offsite always drive. We also like to eat alot of meals offsite. Not to mention to buy food and drinks.

If you drive to MK, you still need to park at the TTC. Because of that it's usually not a significant time saver to drive to MK.

At the rest of the parks, you'll be able to park in a lot that is a short walk (or tram ride) to the main gate.

The long answer is that there is no parking at the Magic Kingdom. Visitors to the MK park at the TTC. From there you either monorail or take the boat over to the MK entrance. If you are staying at a Disney resort the bus will drop you off right near the MK entrance. Bottom line is that driving to the MK will take longer than taking the Disney bus. If you there at a busy time you may also have to take a tram from where you park your car to the monorail/boat, which will take even more time as the TTC parking lot is HUGE!

That depends on where you are staying and what time you plan to arrive at the parks. For example, if you are staying at AKL, then when you go to AK you might take the bus. But to all of the other parks it would be easier to drive. If you are staying at Wilderness Lodge, take the boat to the MK, but drive to the other parks. You can really just play it by ear and see what you prefer. If you're going when it's busy, you might prefer to drive than deal with crowded buses. If you're going to have strollers, you might find it easier to drive than to haul them onto buses. Really depends on your situation.

We always arrive at the parks before rope drop, so we are able to walk from the parking lot without taking the tram. Like others have said, at MK this requires parking at the TTC and taking the monorail or boat. But as long as we are there before rd, this is part of the fun!

We've also found that if we are staying at a park until closing, it is faster for us to drive than to wait for buses with a gazillion other people.

MK parking is horrid.

It's way far away from the park, you have to take a tram to wait for either a boat or monorail...

Disney buses take you right to the front gate...

And if at Epcot you plan to "drink around the world" always leave the driving to Disney :)
