There is no doubt that we are totally spoilt at Disney and the Orlando area with stuff to do on holiday, but after 15 or 16 trips in 9 years we are ready for a change...

trouble is, where can we get what we need in terms of accomodation etc?

We need good weather (ie hot basically guaranteed) - luxury accomodation with a 2 bedroom apartment -
fantastic pool area... with stuff to do nearby...

oh and good value for money!

Not too much to ask for is it!?

Any ideas?

Has anyone done any other resorts in the US (not west coast though - its just too far from the UK!)

Thanks for your help!

If you're looking for a beach vacation where it's hot I'd head for the Carolinas. There are some beautiful resort areas there.

probably April July or August...

Hawaii, California, including San Diego, L.A, San Francisco, San Simeon, Monterey, Carmel, Cambria, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, and everything in between. Carribean cruises, ski vacations......lots of choices.

Thanks for the advice!
Are they all west coast though? we are really looking for something east coast. I cant cope with more than a 9 hour flight?

Forgive my ignorance I really dont know where some of the places are like Cambria, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, san Simeon...
I guess they could be East coast...

It really depends on what you want to do. Check out the Washington DC area, there are a lot of places to stay, things to do, etc. Everywhere along the eastern seaboard is going to have places to stay, things to do that meet your requirements.

Northern Minnesota has a lot of resorts, especially golf resorts, most of which are SIGNIFICANTLY less expensive then Disney with nicer accommodations. Again, it really depends on what you want to do.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

It is my family's 2nd favorite vacation spot. Lots to see and do.

There are beautiful places for rent in Hilton Head, a great destination on the coast in South Carolina. You'd have nice weather there in the spring and hot in the summer. If you want hot, what about Southern Florida. I love the gulf coast islands like Sanibel and Captiva. Also, Miami. A cruise would be great. You can cruise from Baltimore, New Jersey or more choices from Port Everglades and Miami. There is always a Disney Cruise from Port Canaveral, which would also require flying to Orlando. I also like Kiawah Island in South Carolina. That and Hilton Head are way more laid back and relaxing than Disney though. Depends on what you want.

Yes, those are all West coast (well, some aren't on the coast, but they're all Western).

I think that if you want beaches the Caribbean is a good idea. The biggest problem is narrowing the islands down.

Let me throw my vote in for the Carolinas. We love Myrtle Beach (we stay away from most of the tourist stuff and concentrate on the beach). Hilton Head is great too. If you're looking for fewer people and less tourist stuff, Topsail Beach, NC is great. Very laid back.

Keeping with the east, Tennessee is beautiful and lots of great places to stay in and around Gaitlenburg.

Thought of another one. Litchfield in South Carolina. It is south of the nightmare that is Myrtle Beach. Resort has pools that you would like, a great beach, golf etc.

OT, hey Bob, love the new photo, especially the pict of your "other" kid :rotfl2: . He has grown up so much from the last shot!

You should be able to get some good deals from there into Cancun/Riviera Maya. Many all inclusive hotels with great pools and some have suites. I think there are some really nice condos down there too. Do you Google? Another area that comes to mind is Hilton Head. Great condos for rent near or on the beach with tennis and good pools. You should check out South Seas Plantation on Captiva Island near Ft. Myers. They should be about rebuilt since their latest hurricane catastrophe. It's upscale, has several pools and many choices in styles and sizes of bedrooms. Sanibel Island has some nice condo complexes to offer as well but South Seas is the biggest in that area. Many private inns in Key West offer private pools and more than one bedroom accomodations. You can rent homes all over the Outer Banks of North Carolina that have private pools. I like Hatteras Island. The rental companies are www.outerbeachesvacations.com and www.surforsound.com and www.midgettrealty.com and www.hatterasrealty.com
I could probably come up with other ideas but that should keep you going for a while.

If one wants Caribbean and one wants USA, I have the perfect place. North Captiva Island in FL. It is one of the islands in the Sanibel, Captiva area. Accessible only by boat(that will keep you from driving to Orlando) It is just like being deserted on an island except you have a golf cart and a club with pool and tennis. It is one of my very favorite places ever. No big water feature kind of pool. Just a tropical, solitary paradise.
