Just found out that the local district has added 2 days to the calendar due to snow days. Needless to say, the news didn't go over too well! :earseek:

I remember when I was a kid, they used to "build in" a couple of days for snow. We were "allowed" 2 or 3 days without needing to make them up. Wonder why they don't do that anymore.

Yeah, that stinks. Our school has "Flex Days" where they are days off of school if we have no snow days. If we do have snow days, then they are used to make up and we don't get them off. It is a nice system.

not this year but it has happened in the past.

My experience is that those days have very low attendance. Also the teachers usually have their rooms packed up and all the textbooks turned back in and they days are spent with various parties, yearbook signings, and other time wasters.

Ours is....:(

We ripped through our snow days and had to give up Easter vacation, Martin Luther King day, etc. and they still added 1 or 2 days onto the school year.

This messes up DD's HS graduation - the announcements came back with an incorrect date - she will have to go to school on Saturday, June 5th - graduation day.

Yup, DS is in school until June 25th now.

I'm more concerned about the fact that it's 4 days before my due date and I'm the one that picks him up from school! It's 30-45 minutes each way to get him, plus a half hour wait or so at the school. AHHHHHHHHHHH!

School starts back on August 9th and lets out on May 27th. We have 5 inclement weather days!

Our school system adds snow days on at the end of the year. My kids don't get out until June 23. I wish our school system had Flex Days but I don't see it happening. I suspect that the unions wouldn't go for it. (Flame suit is now on ;) )

our school had no electricity on Friday. They just tacked another day onto the end of our year!

That's halfway into summer! When do you start school?

Living in TX we hardly ever use bad weather days. Can't really call them snow days because we are lucky to get one day of snow a year. Ours ends on May 27 and will start the 2nd week of August.

Yeah, our county doesn't get out until June 18th! However, my daughters school is letting out on the 14th due to construction. I'm not quite sure how 4 days will make that much of a difference, but hey, the kids are happy!

5 days added. But it is no surprise, snow days are not built in to the schedule. Last day is now June 18th. Lucky for us we're leaving the 19th for WDW.

Our school is actually closing a week ahead of schedule because it is closing its doors for good. This after they closed every Friday in April for "Teacher In Service" and for the entire school year students were dismissed at 1:30 every Thursday.

WOW! When we were Seniors in HS we always hoped for snow days because the Seniors did not have to make them up. :)

school adds in 3 snow days year
then if more days are needed they come from spring break
last day of school is 6/11
and school starts last week of august this year

Our school year gets extended every year. One would think that by now the school district would catch on to the fact that since we live in NH, we WILL miss school because of snow, and therefore would have built in days at the end of the year. But, they're not bright enough to figure that out yet, so we continue to have days added on at the end of the year. THis year they did everything they could to get us to school, so we had a million delays, but only 1 closing. So we only have one day added on. There was a year when we had 6 days added on. So because I was scheduled to get out on a Friday, school now ends June 21, instead of June 18. And because it's high school, and we have finals I can't just take off and not go to the added on day.

They don't go back until Sept. 8th. and they're scheduled to be out on June 16th next year.

This year has been extremely long, they've had more half days, teacher in services days, mental health days, we're taking a week off because we can  He's had at least 5 days off every month this year.

my ds's school started the 2nd week in aug. and they get out May 18th--one more day--don't know if that is good or bad since my ds's don't know how to get along:eek:
Next year they were 3 days short so they had to revise their schedule but it is about the same.

I kinda wish that they would go year round here, but i guess that hasn't came here yet!!! Maybe someday!! So then we could go to wdw sometime other then the summer:sunny:

They started building in 5 snow days to ds's calendar 2 years ago. Last year they only used 2 of those days, but still had to go all the days. This year they used more than those 5 days and are still getting out the same day? LOL! I'll never get it. But we are moving and I'll get to figure it all out again somewhere else!

In DD school system, they do have built in days but also sometime have to add on to the end of the year. I think this year they added 2 days.

My beef w/ this year is that they are using Memorial Day as a make up day. We always like to take that day and spend it together as a family b/c DH and I are always off. I really don't know if I am going to send her that day...Don't flame me, please, it is just my opinion. There is a big festival going on in our town that weekend and the kids love it. There will be a concert the night before w/ 1964-The Tribute -a Beatles Tribute band- and we have been every year for the past 10 years w/ the exception of the day we came home from the hospital w/ DS:) It is at 8:30 on Sunday evening, so we wouldn't get home until 11:00 or later and I hate for DD to have to get up and go to school after being out that late. I feel about it like I do about taking her out of school to go to DW. There are times when you need to be w/ your family and when both parents have to work, those times just don't come often enough. I am sure they wont be doing much in school and DD is a very good student, so I am not concerned w/ her missing much.

They added 2 and a half hours. Can you believe that. There goes there summer vacation:hyper:  :rotfl:
