Any other moms use cloth diapers on board?

I would love one less thing to pack and wash. I was just wondering if any other CD babies will be on board/have been on board before? I am almost certain that we will use disposables for the cruise (8 nights). I was just curious if you did use cloth how did it go?

While we didn't cruise when our son was still in his cloth diapers, we did travel a fair bit, and, despite being die-hard cloth diaper users, we always used disposables while away. My biggest issue was worrying about being able to wash them regularly in reliable washers, and not wanting to have to worry about that while on vacation. I've read that it is hit and miss in terms of being able to do laundry on the ships (sometimes, way too busy) so that would concern me.

One point, though - we had far more "diaper blow-outs" with disposables, so I had to plan for that in terms of extra clothes for Dude.

One other tip (which you might have figured out) - we would switch to disposables about 12 hours before leaving - so we had lots of time to wash the CDs before we left. It was one more thing to do while finishing packing, but worth it to return to all clean diapers! :goodvibes

On shorter trips, we would bring some cloth to start using on the way home; but I wouldn't risk it if we had to fly or had a long trip, in case we were delayed (I have bad travel luck!)

We cloth diapered as well and did a lot of travelling when ds was a baby. We lived in Hawaii at the time so we did a lot of island hopping, an NCL cruise, plus several trips back to the mainland and we never did cloth diapers while travelling. Just too hard! Like the pp mentioned, we would switch the day before we left to disposables and get all the cloth washed so it was clean for our return. I can't imagine using it up until the time you left and having one of those sitting around your house for a week!! EEK!

We didn't have any issues with blowouts with disposables, but that was just our experience.

My thought would be of the difficulty of pre-rinsing solid waste prior to washing. There's no real water in the toilet. I'd think a bucket with a good supply of water may work, then pour it down the toilet. The space to do this is tight too.

Thank you so much for the responses. I am going to switch to disposables a few days prior to leaving to make sure there are no reactions. I love my cloth, but yes, it sound much easier to use sposies. Thanks for the reminder to not leave any in the pail!

We CD full time and when we travel we use our regular FLIP covers and disposable inserts (like GroVia). I second switching over the night before and washing all the dirties. At the end of the week I can't wait to get back into cloth and usually switch back the day before we head home! We are in the process of potty training and not sure what we will do on our January cruise. I'm thinking a mix of covers/disposable inserts and cloth trainers since I'll be washing aboard anyway.

You might want to try 7th generation diapers

" Everything you want in a diaper and nothing you don't.* Bottom-loving, baby-pleasing performance with absolutely no fragrances, latex, petroleum-based lotions or chlorine processing.* You'll love the way our new, adjustable tabs give baby a soft and comfortable fit."

Sorry, I haven't used cloth diapers on vacation - and there is absolutely no way I would on a week long cruise!

IF you use the nursery at all while on board, DLC info says they have to be in desposable diapers

We have used Flips with disposable inserts and pockets at night for many vacations (mostly long weekend), but for our cruise though, we will be in disposable the whole time. It seems easier with the close quarters and packing issues. Then we can use the space from the diapers for souvenirs on the way home.

We just got off the Fantasy. We CD full time and I really don't like disposable diapers. That being said after having used the washing machines on the Fantasy there is no way that I would try and take my CDs unless I was planning to handwash. My son has a sensative gag reflex and choked several times and subsequently threw up. I prewashed these clothes in the sink and then still had to run them through the washer twice in order to get them clean.

If you really don't want to use disposables (or for some reason your child cannot tolerate them) I would look for something like Flip covers and either disposable inserts or flats with a liner.

I'm not sure that we will be able to cruise again while DS is in diapers because half this trip he complained about the disposables as he doesn't like the feel of them against his skin.
