Twenty years ago, I read the All Creatures Great and Small series and loved it, didn't want it to end. Recently I came across a copy James Herriot's Dog Stories and it reminded me how much I liked his writings, so I'm rereading the ACGAS series again and have watched a few episodes of the BBC ACGAS series that I found at our library. For Christmas I got a few other books including the biography written by his son, also a vet in the same practice his father so lovingly wrote about. :paw:

Who else loves James Herriot/Alf Wight? :goodvibes

I also have some of his children's books. Only One Woof is really cute.

Dd, the girl that wanted to be a cat when she grew up, just did a report on him for school. She has read his "Cat Stories" books. I enjoy his books, too. I might have to read them again as well.

I love his books and have reread them many times. I have some of his books that were published in the U.K. and they have some stories not published in the U.S. series.
Another special book is about the countryside of James Herriot with photos and his comments. And the last special book is a book of his stories but with illustration drawings on the edges of common implements of the times.
I have given them as gifts also for people going through emotionally hard times.

Love, love, love James Herriott! Some of the stories of his clients happen right at our clinic!! You would not believe some of the stuff that goes on!

We have most of his books, thanks for reminding me .... I'll have to start the new year out right with re-reading one of his books!

:) I just reread "dog stories". I've always loved the James Herriot books.

My sister loves him and got me started reading All Creatures...LOve it!

For her 50th birthday some of her copies were getting pretty bad so I replaced them all and added a DVD and a book she didn't have.

I love James Herriot. Some of the dog stories just tear me up, they're so heartwarming.

Long time fan here!!!

Reading his books helped me to "diagnose" my dog when she developed pyometria after having puppies. I took her to my local vet (a farm type vet in a VERY SMALL Kentucky town) and told him what I thought. He was surprised that I knew about this condition, and asked me where I'd learned about it. I told him from the James Herriot books. He was so cool about it...even told me that he had met "the man" once!

I might have to re-read some of those books as well, I think I have paperback copies of all of them...I'll have to look...

I would love to thank my 6th grade teacher. She offererd extra credit to anyone who read it. I was the only one who read it and I fell I love with his books. I love to reread them. I got a friend hooked on him too.
I can remember really well the one that made me cry the most and still does whenever I reread it. Sometimes out of the blue when soeone gets sick it brings back the "wommitin" story. It has been a while, but I think it was one of the first cases he had when he first got there.
Now I need to go check them out again. I only have 2 of them since I have loaned/given many away. I usually find them at yard sales but it is a bit off season for yard sales right now.lol

LOL, I love the "wommitin" story! :rotfl: Mr. Herriot really was such a great storyteller.

Well I have to report, for Christmas I was given Dog Stories on CD for Christmas. I listened to it in the car last night, and laughed and cried my whole ride to work! :goodvibes I've never "read" a "book on tape" before, but I have to say, I'd definitely like to get some others, it was a nice change!
