DD18 just got a new pair of glasses. she mostly wears contacts. after wearing the new glasses for a little while, she got a headache. She says far away stuff looks blurrry and close stuff looks magnified. she went back to the optician. he took her chart and the glasses to the back, came back and told her the glasses were fine. didnt do an eye exam or anything. He told her to wear them a few more days. I feel like she got the brush-off since he didnt even check her with them on. I am resisting the urge to go up there myself and give him a piece of my mind. as a glass wearer myself, I dont think she should be having these problems. any ideas?

I work for an Ophthomologist and here is what we recommend:

Try to wear the glasses for a week, remember it takes longer to get used to glasses, especially in a young person who can sometimes jump up a diopter ot two. If you have the last prescription check it with the most recent. If she has gone up from lets say 2.00 sphere to 3.00 then you are probably looking at her needing to adjust for a while. If it is no better after a week, then it might be the exam did not find the proper prescription.

Keep in mind it is harder to adjust to a new glasses prescription when you normally wear contacts. There is that 1/2 inch or so distance between your eye and the lens that is not there with contact lenses.

If it is not better after a week, then insist your Optician do a glasses check. It shouldn't be a charge.

What the Optician just told you in a round about way is that the glasses are correct according to the prescription. I would go to a reputable optical shop and have them check it against the prescription to be absolutely sure. We get alot of glasses that are not done right. The slightest mishap in the way the lens is ground can mess up the prescription if there is Astigmatism especially. Most optical shops will not charge you to check the prescription.

I hope that helps.

One pair of glasses I got I had problems with the second I put them on. I knew they weren't right but I got the same "try them for a week" story. Every time I turned my head I felt nauseous. I went back and they checked the prescription and it was "right". I said that something was wrong so they did another exam. They then noticed that they wrote the prescription wrong on the order form as compared to the dr's notes. Have them make sure they wrote everything down correctly. I wouldn't wait a week, call them tomorrow.
