Any opinions regarding the New York Hotel?

I am planning an upcoming trip to DLP and are using DVC points to stay there. We chose the New York Hotel, but now reading other posts I am wondering if we may be better off at Newport Bay Club instead. Other posts had many good things to say about that hotel. Additionally, it costs fewer points at Newport Bay Club. Does anyone have experience with New York good or bad? Any experience with the Sequoia Lodge? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I think I'm the HNY greatest fan on this forum - indeed, sometimes I feel I'm it's only fan!! :teeth:

IMHO it's well worth the extra points over the Newport Bay. I have stayed at both at these hotels and Sequoia Lodge, where many people, including myself, have commented on how the quality of the bedrooms has gone downhill. The bar and restaurants still seem to be fine, and are worth a visit if you have the time.

I originally dismissed the NY as I wasn't particularly enamoured of the outside or the pictures I had seen of the rooms. But on our last visit we decided to give it a go and as long as the rooms stay that nice, then this is where we will stay from now on.

The rooms are actually much more attractive than they look in the pictures and are more spacious than the Newport Bay or Sequoia Lodge. The bathrooms are also nicer - bigger, with two basins rather then just one

They also have room service which is unavailable in the other two hotels, apart from rooms on the Admirals? Floor at the Newport Bay, and you can't use your points for those

If you're really into your Disney theming then it may not be the place for you - the main areas are not quite as attractive as the other two. The bar can get crowded with business men as it is a convention hotel, but then so is the Newport Bay. The NY actually has a bigger bar, for half the number of rooms! The restaurants are nice at all three hotels, but the NY has the choice of both a more expensive, stylish restaurant (though I haven't eaten there) and then a more fast food restauant - the Parkside Diner which serves decent food at not too extortionate (for Disney) prices.

You will enjoy yourself wherever you stay - but your current choice is just fine. :D

Thank You Bexx for your reply. I do appreciate all you have offered in response to my post. I do think I will stay with my first choice and hopefully have another fan on the boards.

Just out of interest - when are you planning your visit for, and have you booked it yet? Are you getting just the one room, or are there a few of you visiting?

Sorry for all the nosey questions!! :D

BTW have you tried out the virtual visits for each of the hotels at www.disneylandparis.com This is will give you a good idea of what they're like.

Bexx,

Not at all nosey. We are travelling with 3 adults in one room but member services at DVC assured us this would be no problem as we are booked in a room with two double beds. We have had some difficulty at other locations in Europe as some finer hotels can only accomodate 2 adults per room (with only two twins or one king size bed in the room). Member services assured us this would be no problem for our accomodations at HNY at DLP. Additionally, we are travelling in May. I am getting so excited. I have not checked out that site, but I will be sure to now. Thanks for all the info.

No, you won't have any problems with three people sharing a room at DLP. In fact one of the reasons I asked about the number of rooms and people was because I was wondering if you would be better off renting out your DVC points to pay for it rather than using them directly. But if there are three adults sharing one room then it actually works out about the same to use points. Anyway, if you're going in May you've probably already booked, as they have actually managed to issue the point chart for that period!!!

IMO the NY will be a better choice than the other two if there are three of you, because it gives you that much more space. If you do look at the virtual visits, don't be put off by the darkness of the room! Have a look at the "suite bedroom" one as well, as that will give you a better idea of what to expect.

I really hope you like the NY - I'll feel very responsible if you don't like it after persuading you not to change your booking!! Have a wonderful stay, DLP is a great place. :D

Bexx,

I have checked out the website and the virtual tour and I feel more confident about our decision. We have booked it already through DVC and I didn't even think about renting out the points to pay for the visit. I guess I need to read these boards more often. That is some good advice. I am so excited about our trip, and it is coming up very quickly. No worries though, I am sure we will love HNY, it's at DLP after all!!!

I'm so glad - I feel a bit better about my recommendation now!!;)

It's definitely worth considering renting out your points to pay for DLP in the future, especially if there are just one or two people using the room. The points required go up considerably each time they issue a new point chart. :( Also they seem to be very late bringing out the charts, which doesn't help with planning. If you make a cash reservation you can usually book further in advance. But please don't think "what if?" - your points booking seems to have worked out pretty good for this visit

Once again - have a great time. :D

I just got back from the New York hotel yesterday (we were there for 5 nights on DVC points.) I loved the hotel, the room was nice and quiet, the hotel was better quality from the Newport Bay and Sequoia from what I saw. The Newport bay is huge and I felt it was a little shabby. When we checked in and the receptionist saw we were booked in on DVC points she gave us and our friends a free upgrade to a lake view without us asking (and the hotel was busy as it was easter week.) We used room service one night, the food was good and arrived quickly and we ate at the Manhatten restaurant whaich was excellent. I also enjoyed the cocktails at the New York city bar and didn't find it too crowded even though it was busy. The breakfast was good too. Have a good trip.

Danauk - thank you, thank you, thank you. I was beginning to wonder if I had actually imagined the Hotel New York being a nice place to stay!! :p

We were lucky too, we got an ice rink/sort of lake view - it was really magical.

Thanks again for your input. I was wondering how you got the upgraded view. Did you request it or was it done "automagically" at check in by a helpful Hotel CM? I have stayed at the Grand Californian (using DVC points) before when it first opened and was offered an upgraded DCA park view for a small cash fee, but this was before they had different point options for the upgraded accomadations. I think we have made the right choice and will go not expecting the upgrade, and only be suprised if it is offered. Thanks for all your input again.

When we checked in we were asked how we booked, if through an agent or direct with Disney. My friend said we booked using DVC points direct with Disney and she changed the rooms. We know she changed the rooms as origionally we were given rooms on the 2nd and 8th floor and we asked if there was a possibility to be put closer together. They then gave us rooms on the 5th floor next to oneanother. We were in the midtown block (the one right in front of the ice rink) right in the middle of it with a complete view over the lake as you can see from the photo below:

Wow Danauk - now that is THE view from the HNY. Well done!! :D

We were in some rooms at the side looking at the ice rink and could see Sequoia Lodge over to the right. We went in December and of course everything looks particularly lovely in the dark with all the twinkly lights. We were chuffed to get that view, particularly as it was my SILs and their DHs first ever visit to DLP.

Don't know if we did well with the view because of DVC points. Nobody mentioned anything, though they may have noticed it from the confirmation letter. We were lucky enough to get rooms next to each other without any trouble though.

Looking forward to hearing about your trip nctiggerfan. :D
