Has anyone seen or used the transfer steps for the pools at some of the WDW resorts? What are your opinions on this as a transfer system into the pools? At the Yacht & Beach Club's Stormalong Bay this is the only available means of access into the all of the pools. There are concrete steps on the deck & a person is supposed to transfer from your WC to the top step and then bump down the steps on you butt. I can see how this would work for a paraplegic with good arm strength but would not work for my DH with MD. We have an extremely helpful Guest Services Manager at the Y&B Club looking into this for us. Would be interested to hear others opinions of this step transfer "system". Thanks

Here's a picture of the steps at the WL quiet pool. As a paraplegic they looked perfect to me since I can't use a normal ladder or the zero entry pools. I didn't get a chance to use the pool on my trip but I hope to eventually take advantage of this change in the pools.

There are some resorts that have a zero entry pool. This is a slope that you can wheel a wheelchair down into. But I'd never let my own personal wheelchair get submerged like that because of rust and such. I've heard some places have a beach chair to use for entry but those have to be pushed by someone else and I prefer not to be pushed and I like having the option of swimming alone.

We have looked them at various resorts, but they would not be useful for my DD. She has cerebral palsy and does not have enough balance to use them. Most of the newer or renovated resorts do have those steps.

I think they work best for someone who has good sitting balance and good upper body strength. Besides people who are paraplegic, they would probably work for someone who is weak or has difficulty with balance for standing while going into the pool.

Hey Bill, as a fellow paraplegic, I was overjoyed to see those when I first visited the WDW resorts. I just assumed I wouldn't be doing any swimming, but I was SO wrong! :) Kudos to WDW!
